Betta females will be fine in a community tank.... They will form a hierarchy amongst themselves.I wouldn't put more than 5 in a 40L though and it might be wise to keep the male separate. Female Betta' can become aggressive when wishing to spawn and if the male cant keep up they'll chase him and stress him out. But it sounds like you on the right track...:blink1:
Thanks Kribs... The 40 litre is only for the Betta's. Not the community tank. I currently run a 160litre community tank. The 40litre was retired after 2 months of work (from brand new), and I feel that if it only ran for 2 months, surely it could give me a few more active months... so I will be dragging it out of the cupboard. (It's still in the original packaging!!!) The community tank is still going strong. The 40l is a tank for my wife... she loves Betta's, and has always eye'd them out at the LPS.
I have Jebo R362 (108.8L) <-female tank Jebo R338(40L)<- breeding tank So this sounds all very too familiar
OH NOOO.... HEEHEE. So I got the MTS infection FROM YOU!!!! Same symptoms! Just been to my trusty LPS. (I only support one pet store for equipment, and one breeder for fish)... he's gonna try get me some Flourite for unter my gravel... so the new scaping of the 160l will sit vas for a while. Setting up the 40l will therefore wait, as I will be moving all my fish into the 40l whilst I rescape, and then put them back into the 160... and only THEN set up the Betta tank!
@ZOOM - put your fish in a bucket / drum / bath while you rescape no need to not start on your 40l or are you planning on doing the cycle thing after the rescape?
It might take me a day or 2 to rescape and get everything the way I want it... and I plan on setting up the 40l thereafter for the betta set up... so I may as well put them all in the 40l. I also can't keep all the 160litres of water in the 160 tank cause I'm changing substrate too... as well as putting flourite under the substrate... so EVERYTHING has to be taken out the tank. I will leave about 2 cup full of current substrate in the tank to seed the new gravel. fortunately the filters are well established... so I shouldn't have to cycle the re-scaped 160 afterwards for too long... maybe just overnight to ensure that all chlorine is out, and that the temp is right to receive the fish back in.
