    Hey guys and girls
    I have a short notice 4 day holiday opportunity, but it only works if I can convince my neighbor to look after my staffi and my two aquariums while I'm gone.
    I would prefer to ask him to do as little as possible with regards to the fish, as the staffi is high maintenance enough on her own.
    I have 2 angels, 6 endlers, 8 mollies, 5 zebra danio, and 6 guppies in there.
    The other tank has 1 comet goldfish
    How long can I leave them without food?
    Do I give them a big feed before I go?
    Thanks guys

    As from my own experience the mollies,zebra danio and the comet they should be okay without food for the four days you are away. i wouldnt know abt the rest.

    Jah, apparently fish can go for 2-3 weeks before things start to go downhill.
    They're poikilothermic (cold blooded), so they don't have to waste energy on regulating body temp's (also why tilapia has waaay better feed to body weight conversion ratios than swine or poultry).

    My angels like to eat the leaves of my H.polysperma if they get really hungry, so you can maybe add some of that.
    Or just to be safe like Ryno said, just add a weekend feeder block.

    hi i understand what you are saying. i would rather not let some one ffeed your fish if they have never done it before. 4 days may not be such a problem if all your fish are healthy if you are really worried then what i did was to take out portions of food that i give and put in to small cups and just ask the person who is feeding to drop it in. i would not ask them to feed any frozen foods or any thing like that. hope this helps.

    4 days should be perfect without feeding. I leave my malawis max 6 days without food, and feed them when Im back small portions 4 times a day for 3 days to get their stomachs back to normal....no logic just my gut feel.

    LMAO! :)

    @Zoom

    Is it good practice to fatten up fish before leaving for a few days? Or should one just maintain normal feeding up to the day when one leaves?

    Feed less for the last 2 days you at home. This also lessens the likelihood of any ammonia spikes whilst you awake. Seriously... My fish have gone 12 days with no food. Not a single fatality. 4 days is nothing to stress about. My fish get fed once a day for 5 days of the week on good quality food from Dirk.
