So, yesterday I went to Game to get a 32" LCD Tv. On my way there I was so confident with my choice of TV.
When I got there I saw that a lot of the specials were not in store or that the prices now magically went up.

So I called the salesman closer to assist me in choosing a new one. He went on about plasma BLAH blah blah...
I dont want a plasma, i want a LCD. Anyhow, I call upon another salesman that advises me to buy a HD Ready model instead of the HD model. Once again, I want a Full HD panel.

So I left with no TV at all.

Do you guys(and gals) have any advice with regards to LCD tvs and also of any ones on special.

    Thank you kindly
    Ruan.

LOL, At the moment I'm using a Fujitsu Siemens 24" Full HD LCD. but as with all things we eventually need something bigger.

I would love a Sony to match the PS3  , maybe thats not a bad idea at all. I'll check out their pricing.

Its all in the backlight. Plasma uses a gas as a backlight and LCD, well, thats pretty self-explanitory.

I'm going to check Makro out this afternoon.

Plasma tends to burn images "in".
If you switch it off you still see ghost images on the screen.

You can't really see the difference between the 32" Hd Ready and 32" full HD.
Bigger than that you start to notice the difference.

I have seen both next to each other in a shop once.

LCD's back in the day was inferior to Plasma but not anymore, and dont be fooled by the sales person. Sometimes a "HD Ready" LCD is not able to display the HD modes which is as follows from high to low: 480p · 600p · 720p / 720i · 768p · 864p · 1024p · 1050p · 1080p / 1080i. Look for a screen that supports a minimum of 1080, as that is currently the highest resolution you get for movies (blu-ray). Also if you look at the price jump from a 32" to a 39" its not that much so make consider going a bit bigger that way it will last you longer. It only gets really expensive from 40" and up. My order of preference would be:

Sony (If you can afford it I have a 32" Bravia myself)
    Samsung
    LG
(Everything else that is not even worth mentioning here goes here)

I would recommend looking at Dion Wired shops they always have some really good specials on the go. AND NEVER TRUST THE SALES MEN they just want to push up their sales so they will sell you anything rather do some research on the internet and read up on some reviews ect.

Here is some pictures of my 32" brilliant monitor bought it brand new 4 years back for about R7000:

Trust me you will notice the difference when playing games on your Xbox 360 or PS3 and if you watch blu-rays most definitely. Normal TV and DVD's you wont notice any difference because it runs in SD mode not HD. The price difference between them are so small now you might as well buy full HD which will last you longer in the long run. If you are going to fork out that much cash you might as well just go full house:

Nice little article comparing Full HD with HD ready: http://gadgets.softpedia.com/news/C...D-or-720p-HD-Ready-For-Your-HDTV-1075-01.html

Ruan, my parents just bought a full HD LCD 32" Samsung at Makro for under R6000 (about 2 weeks ago). I think it was just over 5 grand. And as far as I know Plasma is not as good quality as LCD because its older technology. But I am just a girl so what do I know? Hi-Fi corporation usually has good sales as well. Happy Shopping
