Could you regulate the flow somehow? If you can lower it then should be fine

All canisters come with recommended tank size guidelines ...best look at that if you are not sure if it will work.
Just way too many factors that needs researching to make any real recommendation, a few things to consider - how much power does it use, is that the flow rate without media, what does it drop to if you add a spray bar, does the manufacturer have a prefilter that you can fit on your canister etc.

Always good to run a bigger filter than required especially when it comes to canister, however the one thing i learnt over the last 25 years of using canisters is that firstly what ever the rating of the filter is on the box, divide in half. This is because in most cases its measured without any pipes and filter media in the canister and once you factor all that in, it slows down the flow.

Secondly it will also depend on your stocking levels in the tank as well as what type of fish you are going to keep. So it comes down to bioload. The bigger the filter and the higher the turn over rate, the more bioload it can handle.

And lastly filter media is very important. Most of the cansiter filters on the market are all supplied with inferior sponges and filter media. I usually always dump the supplied media and use my own combination of sponge and filter floss and bio media that has worked for me over the years very well.

It is also very important to understand exactly how the water flow enters and exits the filter as this will determine the order in which you load it with media. Believe me they do not all flow the same way.

Just to give you an example I run a Tetra 1200 on a 100L heavily planted community tank, with a lot of fish included some of my BN pleco breeders and the tank is always crystal clear and the filter is serviced evey 4 to 6 months. So basically twice a year. I find its best not to fiddle with a canister once its established and running.

Their is a lot of other technical stuff I have discovered over the years, like making my own intakes and spray bars as I have yet to find a canister that is supplied with suitable ones, even Fluval. But I dont want to make my post any longer than it is already, unless you want more info.

Go to YouTube and look for pond guru he has a entire series on pimping your canister filter, which covers most of the popular ones on the market.

2000L/H though does sound like a little bit to much for a 200 odd liter tank.

    Thank you very much aswell.
@David Kusner would you rather then say i should go for canister that pumps 1400lts/h hens the other one is 2000lt. I believe three trays should be more then enough. Fill two full matrix amd other one with sponges?

    Hi there

I have read through everyone else's advice and one thing I may add is that a canister usually sits below the aquarium. The height that the canister has to push the water to will also have an impact on flow rate.

For a tank near 200 litres, I would look for a flow rate of about 1400 to 1600lph. Just my opinion :)
