Hi guys. The new tank I built has been running on 2 X Phillips Lifemax T8's for a week. I am worried about very small algae spots I have noticed on some of the plants leaves and want to look at different globes. I have a brand new Arcadia 18 watt specifically for plant growth that I tried today but it gives off a very red hue. Any suggestions? Can I run 10 000K whites and not have these issues? Otherwise, what lighting is going to be best for me?

Or could it merely be the fact that the tank is still establishing? I do also admit that sometimes I did not really stick rigidly to my lighting "on/off" times and on some days left the lights on more than the suggested lighting duration just before I got my timers running properly as what I have managed to do so now? Please guys, any advice will be so welcome!!!

    Hi Gaf
A lot of people are suggesting that the 10000K bulbs cause BBA and that you do not want.
I mixed my growlux with 2 6500K bulbs and it does not look so redish anymore. You could also try
A bulb called marine glo, this is a blue lamp and I never had algae problems with these.
Algae of course can be caused by other factors too besides just lights.
I try and keep my lights too 10 hours a day, more than that I get signs of algae.

    Hi gaf,
You're almost answering your own questions.
What kind off algea are you getting?
    What plants do you have?
Do you use ferts and if you do what kind and how often do you dose?
The Phillips Lifemax T8 tube is a 6500K tube,so it is well in the correct light spectrum.
You say the tank is only been running for a week? Please give a complete set off tank info,i.e. ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and Ph.

If you have a chat with the professor, he will actually tell you that he has thrown out all his 10,000k globes. They give you a GREAT view because they make the water appear to clear... but he has discovered that they promote strong algae blooms, as Vis has mentioned. I would consider staying with 6,500k

Stick with the 6500K globes and just put the 10 000k light on when you viewing the tank.
