Don't stress it ... a weak tear happens so fast, it probably does not matter what you can and can not see .. and realistically, people are always concerned about the front panel, be it tears, creep or what ever .. what about the back that nobody gets to worry about. :)

no no .... please do not start with 3000 .. 3 will get you to your 3 000 in no time ;-)

This waiting game is driving me crazy so.... have been toying with some ideas to keep me sane..

Ok... this tank is going to look pretty empty in terms of top swimmers as it will be basically only Flash and Pickels

I don't want to start adding cichlids.... firstly I enjoy the peaceful atmosphere in my tank and secondly don't really want to add messy fish ...

I was thinking of a school of schooling fish but they cant be very small or they will become lunch... I am not a big fan of silver dollars or tinfoil barbs

I have always had a very soft spot for Rainbows... and I think a school of them would be stunning
Now.. my question to the rainbow experts...

All the care sheets I have read say temperatures up to 26/27.... my tanks are always at around 29 and often cant get them below 30 in summer
Will rainbows be ok in these higher temps?

If they ok in those temps, I would have to look at the larger species like reds and boesmani but the few I have seen on occasion are very small...
What is their growth rate... do they grow fairly quickly or are they very slow growers?
I would need them to be about 6 or 7 cm before I can put them in the tank..

    Any advice will be welcome

If you're going for peaceful, some gouramis might be nice. Some of the Trichogaster species get to 15 to 20cm, and predominantly spend time by the surface or midwater.

Giant gouramis aren't for everyone, but if you can get your hands on Osphronemus laticlavius I think they could be stunning additions to the tank.

    Regards,

Hi @MariaS. Have you thought of Red Line Torpedo barbs and / or Congo Tetras? Grow quick, visually awesome and not aggressive

Thanks @SalmonAfrica ... Didn't think of those but will go have look at them
No.. didn't want to go with something as big as the giant gourami

Something peaceful and colourful that will bring some life to the top but not add too much to the bioload
Also, Flash is my main attraction there and although she is amazingly peaceful and leaves alone whoever leaves her alone, anything that will go for her she will retaliate and I also don't want that

I did consider those two... Congo tetras is on my "list".. torpedo barbs.... I don't know..

Had some in the past but never been very lucky with them for some reason... Im also a little concerned that the barbs are a bit too "skittish" and hyperactive???

Torpedos in a large group seem to be fairly calm.
Had 6 in my 2m and added another 6, they are still busy swimmers but not skittish anymore.

Not sure about the high temps with them though.

@MariaS I keep my Rainbows at 24. I don't think they will be completely happy with the high temps. They are also not fast growers. The biggest one I have is about 10cm in size and that is at about 4 years. You will have to grow them out for about 2 years before they will be bigher than snack size unfortunately

    Thanks @Pierré Schoonraad , @Kola ...

Yes.. the temps are a bit of a concern... that is my worry..

I can drop to about 27 and see.. the rays should still be ok.. will do some digging.. but cant go lower that 27..

    @MariaS

I think rainbows are going to be too small. Max 13 - 14cm for the very largest species
And prob a lot smaller when they come from the fish shop.
They will end up getting eaten by the Rays or Arro

Torpedos the same, and as far as I am aware, prefer the temps on the cooler side

Congo going to be too small too.

You say you not keen on Silver Dollars, but give them a look.
There are quite a few varieties - the plain silver ones, striped, spotted, wide bar, hook, "blackberry", and some other obscure species.
They are nice, active and non-aggressive

Or there are some mild natured cichlids.
Geophagus, chocolates, Uara come to mind.
