    Hey

Good to be in a place where I can find help starting my 1st aquarium. Aiming for an asian biotope community tank.

Sourcing plants for this aquarium is a bit of a difficult excercise as a lot is unavailable, scarce or blacklisted. Will be asking around for some species I'm interrested in but can't find.

    Regards,
    Ewert

Tank is 100x480x52cm. Will have the following species in:
    • Amano shrimp (Caridina multidentata [Caridina japonica])
    • Harlequin rasbora (Trigonostigma heteromorpha)
    • Dwarf gourami (Colisa lalia)
    • Siamese fighter (Betta splendens)
    • Glass catfish (Kryptopterus bicirrhis)
    • Peacock eel (Macrognathus siamensis)
Live plants to me is a must! Like I've already mentioned obtaining the stuf I want is going to be a bit of a mission. Stuf I can get that's not black listed (please correct me if I'm wrong) is:
    • Cryptocoryne Balansae (Cryptocoryne crispatula)
    • Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus)
    • Dwarf Rotala (Rotala rotundifolia)
    • Dwarf Vallisneria (Vallisneria tortifolia)
Stuf I want and will ask for on the forum seeing as my local petshops aren't able to source them are:
    • Orchid Lily (Barclaya longifolia)
    • Rice Paddy Herb (Limnophila aromatica)
    • Pellia (Monosolenium tenerum)
    • Downoi (Pogostemon helferi)
    • Pogostemon stellatus (Pogostemon stellatus)
    • Wavy Swordplant (Aponogeton crispus)
    • Baby Tears (Lindernia rotundifolia)
    • Tiger Lotus (Nymphaea lotus)
Any assistence locating any of these will be much appreciated. At the moment I'm still waiting for my gravel to arrive. Where can I find the list of banned plants?

P.S you can contact one of the sponsors Dolphin he could surely helo you with the plants with no problem.
You could also ask the prof what he might have availible.

That's sad. What other shrimp can I use that's big enough not to get eaten by the eel?

None. All fresh water shrimp are black listed. If you want legal shrimp, you'd need to set up a marine tank.

    PS: Welcome to Tasa!

All freshwater invertebrates are blacklisted. Everybody is holding thumbs that they will be
Removed from the list when the new one comes out.

You might also get some hostility between your betta and dwarf gourami.

All shrimps banned?! Talk about a bummer! I don't just want fish and plants in the tank! Snails are no fun...

And what to do about some algae control now? Guess I'll have to just get a pair of Siamese Algae Eaters. :noworry:

Lol! No algae problem yet, still need to get water in the tank... The Seachem Fluorite substrate that I ordered is taking it's sweet time getting here so the entire project is at a standstill at the moment. Very frustrating!

Getting algae controlling creatures in the tank is just preemptive planning and I was hoping to get the shrimps to fulfill this function as some interesting addition to keeping just fish. The siamese algae eaters apparently are top notch and eat pretty much all the kinds of algae out there? So untill such time as shrimps are legalized, they seem to be the way to go.
