so i have a ups that needs a new battery ( well the work has the ups, and i have recommended they get a new one)

thinking of replacing the battery , and pulling the inverter out and running everything off 12v,
ie i will get a battery operated airpump, 12v bilge pump , and 12v lights,
with the eventual plan of getting of the grid completely and using a solar panel to charge the ups battery.

anyone have ideas on whether this can work , or bettery yet done it?

    thanks
    halo

all should work OK if you never in need of a heater
You can do a simple HMF with an air pump and LED lights that is a real drain on your poor battery.

So an off the grid tank would probably be a HMF with an air pump and sunlight via a solar tube for the tank ... what do you want to keep in the tank? Fish or plants?

so start of with an experiment .. 2ft tank, open cell sponge to make a HMF and a normal air pump ... you can still run the pump on 220V ;-)

The biggest issue is light ... but you need less intense sun light than the synthetic stuff to get plants to pearl.
