another thing.. my harlequins r jumping tank.. is it because when the lights go on they freak and jump? what can i do to prevent this? besides the obvious covering the tank?

well covering is the safest :) - maybe with some netting. i have however read something on another forum were a guy was having the same trouble with his torpedo barbs (cant remember the site or link :( sorry). he made a cover out of wood i think and would just put it on at night and would only take it off after the lights had already come on.

Get a Arowana. As soon as they go to the surface to jump, he will eat them thus eliminating wet fish on the floor...

Just kidding. Covering the tank seems like the only SANE answer...

What about a net/mech tipe thing. I would allow normal gas exchange and it can be made to work with a elastic band for fast on and off.

@shihr are you getting any central show piece sort of fish like angels or you sticking with lots of smaller fish and leaving the plants as the main attraction so to speak

all my fish are show fish ;) hehe..

u are right, i love my plants more than i love my fish.. (not that i'd let them die or anything)

i do have some special fish in there too that are pretty shy and dont come out often..

the croaking gourami's, the starlight ansitrious, 2 apisto's, and the not so shy sunset rams :p

i love all my schooling fish too.. just makes me happy to see them schooling :p hahaha

plus, if i add angels, bye bye neons, harlequins etc.. also they pull glosso out for fun!!!!!! :(

Harlequins are known jumpers, I've lost quite a few to suicide already.
I would recommend if you want an invisible solution that you get some black netting with holes about 8mm to 10mm, and make a very slimline frame for it to go on top of the tank.

As for slow light change, I have an idea involving SMD 5050 LED strips, but I'll need someone with microcontroller experience.
