I have 4 zebra nerite snails in my 180L planted tank, and they're great. Won't breed in freshwater, excellent at cleaning glass, substrate, hardscape and sturdy leaves. I'm convinced they eat fish poop too - each morning when I switch on the light it looks as if the fairies have done an overnight gravel vac. Photo attached.

    1) I'm looking to reduce the number of nerites from 4 to 3 because there actually now isn't enough algae in my tank to also sustain my ottos. So one zebra is up for grabs.

    2) I'd also be interested in swopping a 2nd zebra nerite for another type of nerite (e.g. horned, racing stripes, tiger), just to add diversity.

    Collection only, Southern Suburbs.

    Hi,

Is your tank covered? Do they climb out if not? Just for future reference :)

Reserved for @J'den, who was the quickest on the draw.

Crazy that nerites are so difficult to find in Cape Town.

@TheGrissom my tanks are covered as I have a toddler. Better to do your own research but I don't see them above the waterline.

Thanks. Was wondering. I have some rabbit snails in an uncovered tank and they never go above the water line. I have friends who have apple snails and they often climb out the tank. Was just wondering what category these fall under

@TheGrissom what I do know is that, when they lay eggs, it is on hardscape etc - not above the waterline like some other snail species do. Suppose that is also promising.

If I recall correctly apple snails lay eggs above the water line whereas the other common species all lay eggs under water. So I see no reason for them to go anywhere

@krg007 thanks! Shrimp stop was out of stock when I tried to source it, but I’ll try them again for other nerites.

@Amakawa thanks, that’s where I got the zebra nerites from (plus a couple of other things I couldn’t source locally at the time eg amano shrimp, plants). They were out of stock of other nerite variations (eg horned, racing) at the time. Everything arrived in good condition.

@Figeth thanks, they were all sold out when I was there a couple of days ago. Ebrahim said they sold like hotcakes.
