Hey guys! Just wanted to tell you about my new tank that I am planning to get for Christmas. I am getting a 1.2m tank (maybe a 1.5m) and am planning to make it a planted tank! I am buying it in a few weeks and am already starting to plan......Ideas:
    • fully planted tank
    • few pieces of driftwood
    • custom made polystyrene/foam background that looks like a rock shelf
    • white or light coloured gravel
    • custom made wooden frame and hood for lighting
Here are a few of the plants that I want to put in:
Java moss, water wisteria, java fern, giant hygro, twisted vallis, vallis, amazon sword, rotala rotundifolia, ambulia and a few anubias.

Will update when I decide on the exact size and amount of plants!

@FishLover .. sounds like you are planning a beautiful tank - some guys actually draw it out, I have never managed to plan things that well in advance.

Go 1.5m if you are considering it and have space for it or you will always look at the 1.2 and think, I should have gotten the bigger tank!

+1 yes I agree always go as big as the bank balance allow you to go.

Bigger tanks have less hassles, the huge water volume makes a big difference it makes the tank water more stable.

LOL @MarcHawke !!! I already saw some that me very jealous :sad2:...... and sad! That is also what inspired me to buy a much bigger tank so I can "unleash my creativity" . One of the threads, Malawi Mansion in the making, by @Polla , is what got me to read up on the 3d backgrounds and decide to do that. :)

My 300l tank is the maximum I can go and keeps me seriously busy but I would still love a tank that was twice the length of mine. It's amazing how quickly your tank space just vanishes.

There just is not enough aquarium space in the world for an aquarium enthusiast! I think I will be fine with a 1.5 tank for now @MarcHawke , they are quite big...... one day I plan on getting something like a 3m tank....... in my dreams.... lol

A big tank would be seriously cool (except for the water changes!).

What are the other dimensions on the 1.5m you are looking at?

Dunno the exact measurements yet @MarcHawke ..... I only saw a few tanks at the LFS a few months back and decided, I want me a big tank!! I was gonna get a 1.2 but I did a little research after your comments and decided on a 1.5. I think it will be 150x60x40/50 cm. Will post the exact measurements when I go to look at the tank in 2 weeks.

Quick question. Say the tank I'm gonna get is 150x60x50, thats 450l . I want to know what that is in gallons, my aquarium book says divide by4.5 while others say 3.8. What is the correct one @MarcHawke ?

Nice choice goin on the 1.5 man. Trust me the longer footprint will make a huge difference in terms of the variety and size of fish you can put in there.
I have an app called english2metric(E2M) conversion calculator, just google and download, its free. 450lt = 118.8 gallons. that should be the US gallons. I think the UK gallons differ a bit and not sure which is 3.8 or 4.5.
