    Hi guys

I'm looking for a cheap holding tank for my discus. Looking for anything around 200L. Standard 4ft will do. Would prefer 600mm high 1m tank. Not concerned about scratches. Stand included will be a bonus.

As cheap as possible. Can build my own stand new for +- 100.00 and my own tank with new glass for under 500.00... So I'm looking really cheap!

All the guys on JM think their tanks are worth R1000ns. If I'm paying more than R700,00 I might as well build myself a brand new tank... I'm looking in the R300.00 range... Even of its scratched...

OK cool well thought R 1000 with heater, filters, substrate and all that would make it worth it. Unless you have all the hardware you need already.
BTW that is dirt cheap for a 4ft, Who is building it at that price for you if I may ask ? I got Quoted just on glass 10mm for a 800 X 500 X 500 R 1,300 then I still need to build it myself :( Then Moolis Quoted me cheaper than I could get the glass for but it was still above R 1000 just for the Tank...

    You seem connected :)

I don't want gravel, heaters, pumps ect ect. Just a tank and a stand. I would build the tank myself with a 8mm base and 6mm sides with euro bracing. Your tank is working out expensive because of the 10mm glass. Once you go above 6mm the prices start climbing.

Dude... on a 120l x 45w x 55h tank you need a glass thickness of 9mm according to calcs. (Obviously you would then use 8mm with bracing, because as far as I know, you don't get 9mm glass. 6 mm is possibly pushing it. On the size tank I mentioned, you have just over 300kg of water weight.

    I'd go 8mm DIY

I bought a 3ft recently with heater, aquaclear filter, lid with light, various meds, pH test (with chemicals), driftwood and rocks, as well as gravel, and fish nets. (glass is not scratched) for R400. He wanted R500 but I offered 400 and he accepted.

This is true I got the Quote for a Marine Set-up without the bracing coz I wanted a rimless tank and SW is heavier than FW.

I buy up a lot of tanks on gumtree. My rule of thumb is to see if the price Im prepared to pay is what I feel the tank alone is worth. The rest I view as a bonus.

Over Easter weekend I paid R900 for a 1.5m x 0.4 x 0.7h, 10mm glass fully braced with a 50mm square tubing stand all in great condition. Included was an internal filter, lighting, magent cleaners, large 2 piece shipwreck, rock ornaments and a perfect condition fluval 404 external canister filter. The seller delivered to top it all off. And this ad had been sitting on gumtree for almost a month!!

Sorry to hijack your thread @Verndog just wanted to share.

    Regards

    Andrew

@pHish_man thats exactly why I'm not willing to pay allot. There are plenty of good deals like that flying around. I have even got tanks for free, second hand tanks are almost worthless with a few scratches. Thats what I am after : )

    @newbie

Its tradition here on TASA that if your first post is aimed at a sale, then the first offer to purchase can be made at half price........:blink1:

It’s a 1200x400x600mm tank. There are minor scratches on the back class. Obviously this is not a new tank.
