Wow MTS is real! You guys really inspire me. I wonder what proportion of forumites only have 1 tank.....

 

lol, once you start you cant stop, and if you are looking to breed shrimp.. you will need a couple tanks to cul out and separate the good from the bad.

 

So my wife got me my current tank as a gift against her better judgement (shes not into it sadly) and ive been trying to get another but the going is tough....time will tell. What i have done though is bought my bud a tank for his birthday so my plan is to send all the lower grade shrimp to him for in the short to mid term...disseminated MTS

 

I have quite a few batches running at the same time.
Currently there are 3 in use, and 2 that are about a week old, and just about ready to produce worms.

You're welcome to come through to pick up a starter culture.

 

Lol its tuff when the other half is not game. Im lucky so far i just get a smile as i carry tank after tank. Im sure there will come a point where i will be told. But until then i will milk it.

Thanks i have this thing in mind but no idea if it will work or not and if it will be efficient. I need all the tanks to be built to test it out. Im wondering if all tanks can be connected in series via 25mm pvc U channels. The last tank will act as a filter with media etc and pump water back into first tank.
Ill draw a diagram in the morninh and post. I saw a video where it is used on 2 tanks but not sure if it will work with more

I guess it should work if the pump is strong enough

My only fear of several tanks sharing same filter is that if something goes wrong in one tank, especially a sickness, it will spread through your whole system

 

problem is if the pump is too strong the last tank will empty up too quick and the first one will overflow, so it if risky.

@MariaS you are right about the disease part of it, but most the time it hits your tanks from an outside source or am I wrong? this is starting to feel like a very bad idea, maybe @AmithS compressor idea is the way to go. with some lava rock in each tank for bio .

Sorry for the funny question but you will get the point. Is the Wendy house insulated? You will need a stable temp for raising the fry. I'm sure there is a thread here where somebody insulated his Wendy with polistyreen sheets. Heating the room in winter is way cheeper than heating each tank.

Air pump and sponge filters is the best way to run the tanks for fry. I'm running 13 filters of 1 pump.

Get the live food cultures going before the fry are there. Don't be caught with your pants down, like me.

Good luck with the mts. It is the best uncurable desease to have.

Thank u and a very valid point, currently there is no insulation so i will have to look into it. Running a heater in each tank is going to end up costly.

also what pump are you using to run all those filters?

Looks like i will have to settle for 4 tanks, tge sizes on the 5th one are not correct and i found out yesterday that my glass cutting skills are non existant.

You get some sponge filters with a compartment for bio media... seen them in one or two lfs in Kempton Park I think.

 

I also have an few running and work in Germiston you are welcome to some.

are you thinking of a bubble corner filter? I havent seen a sponge one with media thats intersting, and it got me searching the net, I like this idea..

this guy has K1 in there which apparently at this quantity is not efficient enough, but replacing with ceramic rings is 2 times more efficient.

 

You do get small internal filters that work independently ( no need for compressor) and you can attach one.. two.. three compartments at the bottom for whatever type of media you want to put in it
They create current in the tank and air bubbles if you want so that you actually don't need a compressor
They are not that expensive and you can get from little ones to fairly strong ones

I used them when I had smaller tanks and they worked very well

O the K1 media, I think its fantastic but not sure how effective it is in these filters as it is supposed to move all the time.. not sure if it would in the filter you posted?

 

@MariaS, i completely overlooked those filter, I know exactly what you are talking about and think it could be less costly then the compressor and sponge filters.
from what I read about K1, it is amazing for sumps and works really well in pond setups etc, but at this quantity ceramics are much more effective.

now my only issue is heating, I will have to insulate the wendy house and try to heat the room rather than the tanks, i think it will be less costly if I go that route.
