The recent popularity in nano tanks "inspired" me in setting up this tank. But with a difference. It will be a "true" dry start.I will grow the carpeting plants emerged for as long as it takes to cover the substrate.Only then will I flood the tank.Hopefully a month.
    Tank specs:
    450 x 390X 300 (L,W,H)
    Substrate:
Flourite capped with Hagen Geosystem sand
    Ferts:
    A secret for now.
    Light:
Desk lamp with 12W Philips Tornado
    Plants:
    Glossostigma elatinoides
    Hemianthus callitrichoides
(For now.Stems to follow after flooding)

Nice Rudi, glad you joined the Nano club :)
Never could get glosso to grow for me but my HC does, really weird.

Anyhow what is the feature? Look wood but not quite.

You think it will only take a month to cover that piece?

You can include me on watching this one closely too! I doubt a month for a full cover... Maybe add a few more months to that. But I'd be very interested to watch this one!

Welcome to the 'other' side of fishkeeping!

@ Vis,thats rock, not wood. The plants was grown emerged,so there's no need for transition from immersed to emerged. They will just continue growing.I'm hoping it will only take a month,if not, there's no hurry and I'm very patient.

I like the petrified wood. Very promising looking tank. What are you going to be stocking in there?

    Hows the growth going Rudi?
Are you doing dry ferts on this tank as well?

(oops, sorry, I saw the first post said it's a secret for now-> I'd be keen to be let in on this secret when you ready to reveal... *hint hint*)

    week 2 : update

It has been 2 weeks since setting up the tank.
I refresh the water once a week and add some traces with the dechlorinated water.
the Glosso is sprouting new leaves and runners.I snip off the runners and replant them. This encourages new and faster growth.
I'm posting some photos I took in the first week and some I took this evening.
The first 2 are from the first week, the others, the latest.

Green with envy and green substrate. . . :) looks really good. My 45cm is begging for a scape and something like that to cover the bottom, its currently boring as hell and only acts as a nightlight for my study. Im quite interested in the results on this thread

Must take you some time to clip the new shoots and replant :)
Are you going to keep the scape as flat as it is now or are you going to add some height?
You might just make that month target.

    Hi Vis,
This is a labour of love. The time spent "working" on the scape is not a waste.
The pics are a bit misleading, the substrate slopes quite a bit, approx. 2 cm in front to approx. 8 cm at back, and again sloping from left to right at the back.

Always difficult getting that captured on a picture.

At the end it is always nice to see what the time you spend has come too :)

@ Zoom,It is very simple but could be allot more controversial. We'll just have to wait and see if it works.
