Indeed! There is a lot of confusion about Apistos, as one place calls them one thing, and another calls them something else!!

Then you get scientists argueing over which group or species it should fall under, which names they are called and which of the previous old names is the right one!

Plus then there are people who just totally missidentify a particular species, or variant, and start 'trading' it under a different name altogether, so very quickly its a big mess up!!

    Take a look at... http://www.dwarfcichlid.com/Apistogramma.php

That is a bit more up to date with names than the other, but doesn't really delve into variants!

    Cheers

I believe you are not mistaken sir!!

It was that pic of the Tefe Blues that made me struggle to pick between the Tefe Blue and Tefe Red back (amongst a couple of others), but Our good friend Mr. 'Quality Aquariums' convinced me that the Red Backs were that bit extra special, so I'm longing for their arrival to see just how much more special they are?? Feel under pressure now 'A.'?? Haha!!

    Cheers!

haha!! Ferryman!! I like the way you re edited your guess!! I got a notification email saying Alenque, and then on the forum it says Tefe Blue!! haha!! Indecision is fun huh!!??

I personally think is a Tefenque, but just can't be sure!!

Seriously though, I think the only real difference between the two is where they originate?? One comes from 'Tefe', the other from 'Alenquer'. Original I know!! I'm interested to know what is in the water around these two villages, as there seems to be lots of stunning blue fish originating from those two places!!

    Cheers

Anyhow, back to the thread.... Do you care to guess on the above pic?? I don't know the answer, just interested to know what the general consensus is??

    Cheers

Found some nice pics of some different types of Tefe Agassizi....

    Agassizi 'Tefe Bauana'....

    Agassizi 'Tefe Cacadola'

Agassizi 'Tefe Kasadora' ( I think this one may be incorrectly named? I suspect Kasadora is the name of the keeper?? Sounds too Japanese to be a scientific name!! I'll try and find its proper name!! Stunning tho!!)

Agassizi 'White Seam' - Not a Tefe, nor a wild strain, but a line bred species. Just thought I'd include it tho, as its one of the ones I'll shortly be recieving!!

Sorry again for those who can't view Photobucket!!

    Cheers

    Hey Ferry!

If you wanna be in budget (whatever that is??), then in terms of Agassizi's forget the above Tefe variants, they can be fairly costly at R250+ for a pair, so for less than R180 a pair, I'd look into the likes of Double Reds, White Seam or the Profs Red Gold!!

I bought a pair of the Profs Agassizi Red Golds when they were still quite small, and the male has suddenly bloomed into a stunning adult!! I'd highly recommend them! In fact, I got them about a month ago, and already I have fry!!

Other than Agassizi's, other Apistos that won't break the bank are... Ap. Cactuoides, Ap. Trifasciata, Ap. Borelli (sometimes costly) or Ap. Bitaeniata (also variable)!!

Having said that, the last batch of Dolphins german sourced Apistos were for the best part all under R200 a pair except for the odd few!! I long for the day when Ap. Elisabethea Super Red Belly or Ap. Diplotaenia are available for less than R250 a pair!! Both of those go for more than R700 a pair!!! Beautifull though!!

Hope that gives you some fuel for thought??

    Cheers
    G!
