Good day all I am busy setting up my new fish room and getting my 75mm Polystyrene to insolate the room but I have read you must cover the Polystyrene so it don't get wet otherwise it will stop insolating over time. So with what do I cover the Polystyrene plastic or paint?

Any advice would really be appreciated.....

I've never heard of that before - maybe other guys have had experience - interesting to find out!

Hello Gerrit, can you kindly add a sketch of the room with dimensions including roof height and material construction as well as the east facing wall...

Sorry don't have a scanner or software to do a drawing but the room is 4.7m(L) x 3.8m(W) x 2.5(H).

75 mm polystyrene on the walls and ceiling will make a fine insulation!
Where did you read that it will stop insulating when it becomes wet?Cause i have also never heard that before.
I mean you won't be splashing water all over the place - if anything, you might end up with some on the floor.
But if you worried about it you could look into waterproof paint or put some kind of boards over the poly.
I just think this not really necessary and will only increase your building costs.

Hi TheEel I read it on a forum in the UK I also never heard of it before but I must say in my old fish room the condensation was a lot and yes the building cost is a lot. If it isn't necessary to cover the polystyrene sheets then it would be great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Polystyrene ain't cheap - i know.
Condensation water running down the walls should be avoided anyhow, since it promotes mold and fungal growth.
The best way to do this is probably by covering your tanks.

Jip I agree I do cover my tanks with glass slides but still there are condensation and in time you can see mold on the walls. Ok so I think I am not going to cover the polystyrene with anything and hope for the best.......

If you can't control the condensation and get mold then install an extractor fan.
I know,it kinda defeats the purpose of having an insulation...

Here you go .. Insulating the fishroom

I have no roof insulation, but walls and windows .. humidity is kept low by covering the open tanks with clear plastic sheeting.
