    Looking good Gary and good idea with the temp controller. They're not too bad price wise.

    Ok so work is still crazy hectic, 6 days a week 1am to 1 or 2 pm....eish no time for the fish, just some quick water changes and feeding and off to bed......But then yesterday something small catches my eye in the multi's tank...FRY! tiny little buggers!....Then I stand and watch the Brevi tank...and what do you know...MORE FRY!

    So I need to get me some brine shrimp culture going..where to find the time...just hope I am not too late with the bs as i have to go to town to buy some this afternoon and then set it up etc....Exciting!:coffee:, but iesh I need to get me some sleep...and another job!

    @GaryG,
    Very nice surprise.

    I have found that cichlid fry tends to be relatively large.
    Try some crumbed egg yolk, are finely ground flakes.
    If you are very busy (as it sounds you are), it may be easier than fiddling with brine shrimp cultures

    Hey @GaryG

    Congrats on the spawnings! Took me years to get Brevis breeding!

    You'll find that the adults will chew up food and release it through their gills for the fry to eat. You can assist by crushing some food a bit finer. It can be difficult to feed fry in a tank without fouling the water so watch out of any uneaten food or new smells coming from the tank and keep on top of your water changes. A 10% daily water change along with your regular weekly water changes is recommended if you're feeding your fry intensely.

    Watch out for the crumbled egg yolk especially, it can make a mess of your water in a hurry! It is an excellent food though.

    Microworms are another great option for those who don't have the time or patience to hatch out brine shrimp on a daily basis for their fry. This small live food is relished by even the smallest of fry.
    @Reedfish - Have you bred shellies and rock dwellers before?
    Their fry are a lot smaller than the mouth brooders. Shellies in particular have very small fry, but they have big mouths and don't struggle to eat brine shrimp.

    @Reedfish - I think the Altolamprologus fry are about the same size as most shell dwelling species, at least those I've bred.

    I also found them to be among the slowest growing fish that I have ever had.
    They were ok to one or two cm and then really slowed down
