Yes I've got two that I want to try and make now.

The elevated one and the V shape one with perspex

    Ok quick update.

Made a small V shape catcher from 4 pieces of perspex.

So your water height should be as high as the black uprights and your pregnant female in the V part :p

Looks like this is a good design. Thx Dolphin

Nice job, and Sooooo much better than those crappy, stress inducing plastic boxes, sold as breeder traps.

That's the main reason I started with trying to make some sort of fry / egg saver and there is still enough space for the fish to swim around.

I know people think it's cool seeing the female have her little fry and be able to watch it up close in those small breeder traps. It's just like putting your fish in a jail.

The net your dad brought through last night looks good! He mentioned that you were busy with the perspex last night - how is that going?

Now just want to play with sizes and see what works

    UPDATE:

I made another V shaped saver that fits snug in my little 45cm tank that I have. I had a female guppy high in her pregnancy and decided to test her in it. About two days later there were about 25 little ones swimming outside the V and she is happy inside.

The only problem that I need to overcome is that the perspex does not let the heat through. The water in the V gets colder than the outside over time.

What I've done to overcome it temporarily was to hook on a side filter so that the water runs over the side of the V to keep the temp the same.

This sounds like an interesting idea for a small "catch tank"... :hmmmm: might want to try this as well

i saved about 15 or so guppies in the main tank, and it turns out i also saved 2 platies, didn't even know they were carrying, wish i coulda saved more platies...

Anyone with live breeders I'd also recommend this.

I have another female guppy almost ready to drop the fry. She is also going into the V. And the other little ones can stay in the same 45cm tank. The chances they swim up the gap in the V is very little.

Ferryman... If you were down in Cape Town you could have come and picked up a V catcher and tried it. I made 3 so far :eek::eek: Different lengths and sizes.
