    Hi

My opinion is that, it says your water quality is good, as I have heard that leeches are the first organisms to dissapear if water quality deteriorates. ( hope I spelt that right ????)

Got lots in my pond. Only time they open my eyes, is when I clear out excess plants and they attach themselves to my legs.

Otherwise unless you physically see problomatic fish covered in leeches be happy your waters good.

    My opinion,

Maybe Azurekoi or Prof Dirk can give better advise. They really are the experts.

lol - @RogertheDodger - Hate the word "Expert" - just been at this a long time.... You pick up a thing or two....

Leeches - Eish....hate the little slime Blobs.... however,If you buy pond plants, can almost guarantee that at some point, you will get these pests.... not even going to start mentioning the chemicals we use in koi fry growing out ponds to get rid of them.... Let's just say they are not very friendly.....

Manual removal is possible though - Go buy some chicken livers(or sheep, cow - the bloodier, the better).... Place inside a ladies stocking - emerse in pond.... leeches will swarm to this, suck on it and get their teeth stuck....pull out and dispose...
Warning - dont leave liver in pond for extended times - it will rot and foul your water.... overnight is about max.... It's a bit tedious - and you not ever completely sure you get rid of all of them - but you can bring the population down to a level where they aren't a threat to your fish...

okey,so i dont see them, had found 3 in the filter and 1 on the bottem. Will they harm the guppies since thy are so tiny?? And about the liver, nothing will happen if the guppies nibbles on the "ladies stockings" with the liver inside?

At high population density... when the detritus and other pond organisms they prey on runs out, they will try snack on a Guppy or two... No - your Guppies will just get a nutritious, iron loaded snack...

But since you gotta bring those Guppies in for winter - give the pond a good clean out anyway....

Im not bringing them in for winter,i have enough heathers, and my friend's father has a smaller pond and been surving for about 3 years(cleans ones a year,he said i should keep the net over top not to let the dew set ar fall on the pond---Anyway,so the guppies will snack on them as well?
