Apologies if the color looks off. Screen not calibrated.

Back there you can see a lovely Anubia I got from Henk the other day. I also started dosing DSD water hardening mix because I have a calcium deficiency. We'll see how it works.

ok so i didnt want to be the wet blanket, and youre getting all these positive comments and all that, and your tank is looking really awesome dude, for real, but, here is what i can say for sure, with angels, you should get either 1 or 6, or you WILL wake up one morning to find that one of them is floating dead, you have a dwarf guarami in there as well and because he is also a cousin of the angel, he might also be harassed to death in a short while.

i know that you say your tank will be overstocked, but that orange marble pleco is probably producing more waste than all the other fish combined, and he's probably sucking on your plants and doing damage to them as well, here is what i advise: get rid of the pleco (he'll outgrow the tank in a few months anyway) then you can add some more angels (as i said, you'll need 6 in total), and get a smaller BN pleco instead, this should keep your stocking levels reasonable for a while, but i think in a year or three, you might have to move the angels to a bigger tank anyway.

the BN is also more effective at cleaning the algae in the tank.

even if your tank is slightly overstocked with the 6 angels, you can balance this out by doing 2 (10%) water changes per week instead of just 1 (20%) or whatever water change per week.

using prime as your dechlorinator will also help keep nitrates, nitrites and ammonia lower with slightly higher stocking levels.

anyway, best of luck with the tank.

    keep us posted :)

Only way they are "cousins" is that they are both fish.... Cichlids belong to the family Cichlidae an Dwarf gouramis to the family Anabantoides...

Although the scenario that MDN suggests couldbe possible with the Angels - it is not set in stone... Keep your temp 25 or lower and this will prevent the onset of "Breeding aggression"...

    Agree on the plec though....

lol you are absolutely correct, i was confusing the gouramis and betta's with guoramis and angels. angels do not have the surface air breathing organ that gouramis have.

ok dude, i have much respect for your knowledge and experience since i've been on the forum, but i have seen angels torn apart from being kept in too few numbers, even at temps of 24deg. i have also seen them go for gouramis :p this is my own personal experience, and i would rather that @Razer2007 not have to lose one of those absolutely stunning angels that he has.

altho, keeping fish at correct temperatures do make a difference i have to aggree, i have seen clown loaches become agressive when kept at 26deg, then calm down and go back to their usual playful selves once temperature was pushed to 30deg.

    @Vez, @f-fish, Thanks!

@mydummyname, I hear what you are saying. I was considering getting rid of the Pleco before, but he isn't growing; iv'e had him for quite some time and he stayed that size. I know he makes a lot of waste too. I was thinking of getting some more otto's for cleaning. I don't have the Gourami's anymore. They and the Brochis died of my ammonia/nitrite because the tanks wasn't done cycling. The only time when my angel laid eggs was when the ambient temp got 27+, then the water go to that too. My temp is set on 25. I want to add 2 more of the prof's angels when I can make it to Somerset West some time.

@azurekoi, thanks for the insights again.

    Long time no update.

Got a lot of new plants and I bought two male angels from the professor. I also purchased some loaches.

Somebody is buying the pleco on Saturday.

PS I am sorry for the off color in the pics.

We came back after the long weekend and I was welcomed with this ugly sight. Hair and Staghorn algae all over. After a quick operation I removed most of it. I am lowering my light period to 8 hours and will stop dosing for two weeks.

Meanwhile at the place where we stayed (Waterval oord near Vanrhynsdorp) I "obtained" some nice wood and gravel from the river. The wood looks safe to use as it looks old and was clearly in the water for a long time.

Yes.. That's exactly what I thought of when I saw it. :D I will find a solution though. I am lowering the light period and stopping ferts for 2 weeks.

Yep it can't all be plain sailing can it?
