    Hey Guys

So Ive been experimenting with photography, and got myself a macro lens, a prime lens with f1.4 & a Canon 7D all for about R35 000.

What, You say?! That's ridiculous! Exactly, because thats not what i did! Haha.

Believe it or not, the following pics were taking with my Nokia C3, which has a crappy 2mp cameratjie!!

    Photo0031.jpg Photo0029.jpg Photo0032.jpg

I basically stole a lens from a Laser (R20) and stuck it over the lens of my phone. The same can be done with a DVD lens, according to this tutorial.
    http://www.diyphotography.net/super-macro-your-cellphone-camera-with-a-dvd-lens

I came up with the idea myself, only to find out it had been done already. :amazed:

(BTW: The snails in the pic have taken over my tank. How do i get rid of them?)

Ultra cool...seems like your focal depth is slightly out,but still fricken amazing for a camera phone - Regarding the snail....squash him = nutritious fishfood...he,he - just watch out for any more, cos where there is one....thousands more hide...

Well there are already thousands more :(
How do i get rid of them?

As for the focal points...these snails and plants are about 5mm away from the lens! so its quite difficult to get the right focal point such shallow depth of field for that short distance...

@ryanj252 - look at adding a loach or two from the Botia family - snail killers par excelance - just research well 1st - the skunk loach(often touted as a great snail killer - wich it is) gets super agresive....

You do get snail killer meds out there..... never use if you have scaleless fish in the tank + when the mass of snails die off,you get a bad ammonia spike...

Otherwise just squash them and there eggs - your fish will love you for it.

Chuck in a piece of lettuce at night and remove it in the morning with the snail on it. repeat until under control. and repeat in 2 months again...lol

correct. skunk loaches and red tail loaches = dead tank mates. yes, they will even take on and win malawis in a fight.

rather go for yoyo or polka dot loaches. they grow to about 12cm

clown loaches are ok but they get up about 30cm.

also they make for really cool fish to watch in the tank :)

LOL great idea @ryanj252 Thanks for sharing! Another method would be to use a magnifying glass, or to turn your lens around (if you have an slr with removable lenses)

Very cool! Re: the sn@ils! I too tried the lettuce trick = sn@ils not even vaguely interested! Then I tried running boiling water over lettuce: result: exactly the same! NOT willing to pour poison in, so reverted to squashing. (Fishies DO love this.) Result: Well....
6 months later, one sleeve permanently rolled up (LOL! I MEAN it) and I'm down to 2 a day per tank! Well, its better than the 60/day I started with!

That said, I really wouldn't mind the odd one cleaning up quietly, but oh, if only they showed even a modicum of restraint!
PS: If you go the squishing route, early in the morning is the best  hunting time!

    Pleasure pleasure Firefly.

As for the snails...i put in some lettuce last night and checked this morning....Nothing. Last night i also squished a few of them and the fish actually maul for them! But then the danio's came....swallowing entire snails in one gulp. Il stick to the squishing.

UPDATE on the Lens: I tried this technique on a Sony Ericson Cyber shot. It seems to struggle to focus with my lens added. So i assume it could be safe to say that camera's with adjustable focus are out, unless the initial lens can focus on images about 3mm away...
