I need advise. I am trying to cycle my tank but when I test the water the NO2 and NO3 levels are max for test kit pH 7.0 but ammonia stay at 0. I have tried using some flakes but no change. I am trying to do fishless recycle but now am thinking maybe I am wrong and should introduce some fish say neons or something else. Any suggestions for ammonia source that works.

    Hi mate.

Get your self a bottle of seachem stability and seachem prime add your fish; follow all the instructions and you are good to go.

Try and get some mature filter media from your fish shop or another fish keeper. That should help.

If you want to add amonia without fish. Go to Pick n Pay. Look in the cleaning section for unscented amonia. Add a small amount, you can calculate the amount required. But that is a sure fire way of introducing amonia without fish/fishfood.
Be careful when opening the bottle tho, it can knock your breath away.

Just did a 50% wc added seachem prime and stability. Waited an hour and tested the water. No change in the readings. PH 7.0 Ammonia 0 ppm NO2 and NO3 max readings.

Using this method does take a little longer.

I would still rather do a full normal cycle of a tank without all these insatant cycle snake oils, especially if you want to keep sensitive fish.
If you get NO2 and NO3 readings it means that your tank is past the NH3 stage of the cycle, you wont be able to pick up any ammonia ever again if all goes well, now just wait for NO2 to come down to 0, then do water changes to get rid of NO3 and add your fish.

Right now I will just be glad when I start to see some results in the n02 and no3 levels.

@Johan Kotze so I should just wait and not do anymore water changes and just test NO2 and NO3 levels?

NO2 should go down to 0, once you have 0 NH3 and NO2 with some NO3 the cycle is complete, then you can do some water changes to remove NO3 from the tank before you put your new fish in. Don't do anymore water changes until your NO2 is also 0 like your NH3

Thanks I thought I was going crazy. I have a planted tank and hope to add more so that should help with the no3 per my understanding.
