"Funny been keeping an eye on my mixed guppy - betta tank (it has 5 beta females) and spotted the one with a guppy fry in her mouth. So maybe it is time to move them out of the tank into a drip system"

Fish would you mind explaining what a drip system is.If you can add pics/diagrams it would be super.:blink1:

a drip system is when multiple containers share one sump filter. there are alot of different ways of making one. the basic principle is that the pump pushing the water out of the sump, after the water has been filtered, is sent to all the betta containers. as much as I would love to explain more, google does it far better. search betta baracks or betta drip system. there is even a series on you tube on "how to make a betta drip system".

the one major problem Im having with the drip system is the containers. cant find something clear and affordable

I think that they are too small. I wish we got "beinie" boxes or what ever they're called in this country. they seem perfect

Its my old normal one, tank was cycled, maybe not fully, but I seeded it and all that. I put him in a new 1ft home, next to my PC, but I just realised that his air pump is next to me too, and im a smoker.... I didnt click when I put him in here lol

Nope - it depends what disease you are talking about - you could add a big UV filter to the feed running back to each drip .. and make sure that all the overflow goes straight into the sump. Loads of big LFS's run a single main filter system .. you would need to scale it down depending on the number of bettas you want to keep.

You can get most of these in our plastic shops ....

I use Panty Box No 4 for general fishe mover, have some Mini Multi Box for moss not sure what you would consider cheap but they might have something in the range you are looking for. nice thing is it seems like a consistent supply not just a 1 container wonder.

Perfect, although the previous ones that you showed me, may retain heat better.

Yeah ... I think you will agree that the bottom container is actually OK for keeping things in even if it is not as transparent as the top container. For the life of me I can not find affordable sized containers that are 100% clear - if you need bigger containers that are clear you might find it cheaper to make a Baracks tank system from glass.

I am using these for growing moss - a 1.5 litter box (one at the bottom) is less than R13 .. the top photo box less than R10. But going for larger containers means you are starting to look at 40 - 50 rand per tank and then they are translucent ... as the size increase transparency decrease.

I agree with you that the bottom one seems to be the way to go for now because it's easier to drill plastic than glass, although it does depend on the over all design. im just gonna keep my eyes open, there has to be a clear container for something right under our noses somewhere. F-Fish, are you also interested in building one?

who are the betta breeders on the forum?

Build one to breed bettas - commercially ah NO. Build one because I can - YES :p

I have two males - one from a shop the other from a chance hatching. The 5 females are from the same hatch so I do not think it wise (might be wrong) to cross a male with his sister?

This probably means I need to go make a 2m stand and rearrange some tanks for better floor space use. Probably going to end-up trashing my PFP tanks for sumps .. let me see how things go.
