I rate a great way we can work together as the KZN Fish Club is to start helping each other out - just by letting others know what good deals they find throughout KZN, whether its fish or equipment.

A good way to start is to start posting anything particular that you guys are looking for - I know for a while many people were keen for Keyhole Cichlids, but we hadn't heard of them for years. Guess who knows where to get some :blink1:

Anyways, also keep an eye out for bargains for other users. Maybe if you see a good second hand deal, you could post it up on here (although no contact details or adresses - its safer to do so via PM).

Hi everyone,

Gordon here - new to this group.

I currently have a 3 foot tank, but am looking to upgrade to a 5 / 6 foot one in the next few months.
I'd like to buy the tank, stand and hood together, but I'm battling to find it at a decent price.
Does anyone know of stores in the Durban area that they would recommend for this?
I've visited Northlands Pets. They have some great looking Juwel tanks, but for R10k I'd rather look around some more...

Jessie - thanks for the suggestion (I can't reply to your PM you until I have 10 posts). I have been checking out gumtree & JunkMail. No 5/6 footers with stands for sale in Durban, but I will carry on looking. I'm starting to lean towards making a wooden stand and hood myself. I made my current (3 foot) hood myself, but was hoping to avoid the pain again (I'm not exactly handy).

Any other recommended pet stores?

I'm still thinking about the overflow box, don't think I need one; in all my other tanks I've just used AquaClear pumps. But an overflow box would be cool - hidden pump and all. I guess it would just depend on the price.

i visited the petshops in umgeni yesterday, the new tanks were priced too high. One of them is not even open anymore. I did not see anything that caught my fancy except for the cabinet tanks. Their awesome but pricey.
I visited builders express also, and wow they have really upgraded their store alot. Even found pfp and chemicult as well there.

Tell me, do any of you guys know someone who builds tank stands? I need a quote

this is my plan for a 2-tier stand to house 2x 3ft tanks. I got some help from khalidmanack with this. But if costs more than i have set aside i'd rather buy a 4ft tank. Still going to modify this to mount a light for the top tank

Well I found an old pet shop in Durban, The Shop is on Berea Road, Equipment and Livestock far cheaper than any other pet shop I have been to in Durban, the service is excellent and the guys there will try and source anything you require. Discus prices are ridiculously low. pm me if any one requires further details.

If you guys want a good deal on your tanks size ver cash then build them at home, its so easy my dad taught me and its so easy, and cheap, you dont have to be handy at all. I just built 2 x 300l tanks for R1000 for both... If you need help pm me

great idea to build tanks on your own - but if you going for the biger sizes be verrrrry careful about the strenght of the glass verses the size of tank bcos water is a dead weight - Bfore starting your tank I suggest u get gud advice about how to reinforcing glass etc.

I am new to this site, and I think you have a wonderful idea to share info and places to get certain items. I am desperately looking for three dwarf puffer fish and am running into walls whereever I go, including having people tell me they have dwarf's and they turn out to be other puffers. So frustrated right now. So if anyone knows where I can get some I would really appreciate it, I am even prepared to courier them in to Durban as I have set my heart and tank on them.
