pfs, play sand, river sand.. the finer sand is important for the delicate barbels on the cory's and obviously the sensitive nose on the Elephant nose.
FreshWater, Play sand is a very good choice, just make sure on how it is being prepared by the manufacturer/supplier as some do contain salt. I know some toy shops are selling play sand in 20kg bags. I've seen couple of guys previuosly using river sand as well as substrate and tehy were keeping cory's and elephant noses in their tanks. If you opt for river sand just rinse well with boiling water and then with some clean tap water to get rid of small pieces of debris that might be caught in between the sand and of cause the dust that is coming with.
I use PFS in my 3 foot, it is fine and looks good but isn't too fine so as to be swept all over and into impellers.

I drove to a couple of lfs and asked what substrate (sand) they had available. Only one had silica sand which looked quite fine.
Would this work?
