I have put in some more plants in my tank and now its really getting some shape with some great ideas from Altum. Thought I will share it with all.

The wood is still leaking and some of my first plants have really settled in great.

I have just added the plants so the water is a bit cloudy.

Looking good - it is going to be a jungle one of these days. If like me you find that you just need to add that drift wood purchased from the LFS but don't like "wood is still leaking" affect - boil it in salt water for 15 - 30 minutes - decanter and do it for another 10 or so minutes ... the second boil should be cleaner than the first. Do not boil it to long, you are not trying to make root pulp. ;-)

If you use Mopani you can boil it for about 4 hours and repeat - that usually takes care of most of the tannins...
Myself - I like the tannin colour.

Indeed - Zafgak, I should have mentioned that my times are typical when I dump it into a pressure cooker.

On the upside - this also kills / cleans most things stuck to your purchase. You ever notice that the drift wood in the LFS is always stuck in some corner / under a bird cage or some thing .. I find myself wondering what floor cleaner / droppings / other chemicals have collected on that peace of wood.

Stripes, if budget allows it, and you don't want the tannins in the water, Purigen works well. I bought some yesterday because I was just tired of doing 50% water changes every week to get rid of the tannin stained water.

Literally 2 hours after adding it to my tank my water was clear... or so I though. I was actually pretty happy with the results after 2 hours. Then this morning after romoving my blanket and turning the lights on... the tank is even MORE clearer. I didn't think you could get more clear than clear. The water is sparkling and looking absolutely amazing!

(They should invent this type of chemical for pools!)

Hahahaha Zoom, remember that you use appox 1 gram of purigen per 4 liter of water..... Now imagine what its going to cost for a pool of 10 000 liters ?????

Thanks all. Will get some purigen and try it out. Did you buy it at a LFS?
