New Babies

Hey guys, Over the weekend I stripped 2 of my wild caught kigoma frontosas and got a whopping 43 young babies, I also stripped my wc aulonocara chilumbas and got out 42 babies. They are now currently in my incubation tank until such time that they are big enough to go into my 1.2m tank with my other juvinile f1 kigomas and the other chilumbas which are 3 months old. Looks like I`ll need to set up another tank soon.

What do mean by "stripped"? Did you take them out of the tank? Just can't quite understand what you stripped.

"Stripping" is the term used by Cichlid breeders for catching females that are holding fry or eggs, forcing their mouths open and releasing the fry or eggs.

I personally never did this when keeping Malawis.
But people do it to get the fry in a more controlled environment. So for eg, if you have multiple breeding pairs in a single tank, the minute a female releases the fry, they will get eaten. If you strip her, you can put the fry in another tank. This way you wouldn't have to put the female in another tank, and then have problems re-introducing her.

jairus - No prob. As I say, I never did it myself. With my Malawis, most of them would have been hybrids anyway.
