I got my very first fish tank this year and decided on a guppy tank as they are so beautiful. Due to the rapid breeding I've had to get a tank double the size of my first one ( I now have a 100l) and have run out of space again. I resorted to giving adult females to friends with other tropical tanks as well as many many "teens" and fry.

But the breeding just isn't slowing down, i have given away approx. over 50 guppies and i still feel as if it made no difference, i've turned down the temperature numerous times in the hops of slowing down the breeding.

The overstocking has become such a problem that today i found two fry that had disabilities due to inbreeding (i'm assuming its due to inbreeding). I am at a complete loss as the overstocking also seems to be effecting my other fishes health and its upsetting to be unable to do anything.

Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Since your Guppies are so fertile...why not turn it into a little business? Go buy one of those el cheapo kiddies pools(And a cheap filter of some sort) and raise the fry outside in the warm summer months.... Most Fish shops would jump at the chance to buy cheap, home bred Guppies used to our water....

If you want, you can also separate the males from the females. This should slow them down

I had a similar problem a while ago in my 2ft tank, then I decided to pop a few female bettas from my first spawn in there as I was short on space - hey presto, big fat betta girls and end of guppy overpopulation! Just make sure there's lots of hiding places and plants for the male guppies though, the bettas tend to do some fin nipping in the beginning, but they've all settled down happily now. Also very colourful!

Those are great ideas, here is another one. Take out any plants and decor that could possibly provide a hiding place for the fry. Broblem solved:blink1:. Once the females give birth, the fry almost immediatly get consumed by the other guppys, even the mothers get bite. If you take them to your pet shop their most likely to end up in some oscars tank, thats what they did to mine.
