I am from Alberton and currently have a 4 Ft tank with two big Plecos (I think). We are waiting for them to 'move on' so that we can restock with smaller fish again.

Welcome to TASA VJB.

It might be a bit of a long wait VJB. Plecos can have a lifespan of up to 20 years LOL. Maybe you should rather get infected with the MTS. That should solve your problem faster........

Welcome to TASA - why don't you want to introduce new fish with the plecos?

The plecos are rather big; about 30cm each.

How safe is it to introduce smaller fish like angels and guppies?

Welcome! Are the plecs not fish-friendly?

4ft tank... mmmm... I'm just imagining what I could do with a 4ft tank..... *dreamy look*

Hi Madam! Plecos are not always fish friendly because a big pleco will eat any fish small enough to fit in it's mouth.

Basically Plecos are not that fast. So if you want to add smaller fish, just make sure its not something like a guppy. Angels should be fine as they are pretty fast and if they do not offer themselves as lunch, a pleco should not be able to catch them.

Hey carping you haven't seen my plec move he's like lightning, I've already lost 3 neons to him and neons are fast to start with. Maybe my plec is on some undercover roidz! lol!!! as you said Angels are fine but the smaller fish like guppies are a meal ticket for large plecos.

Neons aint that fast either.... I've got an apple snail that was able to catch 2 of my Neons. And that was only the ones I caught him red-handed with LOL

My Plecos never appeared to be aggressive. I think I'll try 5 Angels and see what happens.

Good plan with the Angels... I only have baby plecs (not the leopard ones that grow into near-monsters), so I have no clue about the big ones' temperaments. Mine are the most peaceful little dudes, love them.

A snail that caught a Neon, what the...?? Snail on steroids, what do you feed them?

Apparently it's the omega 3 & 6 in the other fish they eat. Good for the growing snail & fish brain.
Ok if you have only small plecs then your'e ok to put a few guppies in with the angels but if they get big like my baby who is 15cm long and still growing then the guppies might have to go or the pleco has to go but that's a choice you'll have to make later on.

They eat exactly what the other fishies eat, wafers, flakes, pellets, bloodworm, shrimp... and other slow or stupid fishies that come around LOL

On a different topic... those apple snails: they are beautiful, and I like that they do a little bit of tank-cleaning at the same time. Was going to consider getting one, but then I realized that they multiply on their own (talented little buggers), and I'm not sure I want to become a snail-killer, and I'm not into flushing live animals down the loo. (have heard it's not too good for sewerae either)

Is there a trick in controlling the situation humanely?

Yeah, call me and I will come and remove them for you

Really? :D

Where do you stay?

Do pet shops also take them? (please excuse my ignorance - very new to this)
