Hey guys,

I recently got a new 1.6M tank (1.6X60X70) and we started setting it up today. we painted 3 sides and and replace the base board of the tank... add some potting soil and now we are busy washing 120kgs of river sand... yayness....

We plant on running 6x 80watt T5s ( still need to figure that one out) with a canister filter - i'll most prob take the Eheim Pro3e off the 2.5 as its only being used to polish the water....

will post some photos laters

small update on the tank.

Added 10 Botia Striata, 10 Kryptopterus minor and 10 Puntius semifasciolatus.

Some photos of the aqua scape - i trimmed many of the stem plants back and replanted them - hence the short back ground plants

Henk..

I bow my head and tip my hat... that is an AWESOME planted set up.

Are you running CO2?

What is the grass stuff in the front?

While I'm messaging you... I am able to get (Osram) T5 24w Daylight spectrum from a local lighting shop. Are they any good? I'm currently running T8 Aquaglow (rubbish) I bought from lps.

Henk Hugo
12-08-2009, 18:40
The small one thats growing under teh substrate? thats Eleocharis parvula. No CO2....

Yea the osram daylights work great. they should be around 6000K

Yeah, the one that looks like grass.

OK cool... I seem to remember seeing 6000K in the catalogue. Can get them for R69.00. (Good price?)

Henk Hugo
12-08-2009, 19:09
yea thats a fair price... not a GREAT price but a fair price - i buy salvania 54watt T5s for R45 each

Sean J
12-08-2009, 20:31
Where do you buy them for that price Henk?

The tank is looking good man! Those B. Striata look fantastic. Not as rough as Pakistani Loaches.

Henk Hugo
12-08-2009, 20:38
i get them from Lamp House - each lamp house branch varies their prices on the landed cost of each shipment - so it goes up and down the whole time

Henk Hugo
14-08-2009, 12:59
Thomas washed the 4 or 5 bag of river sand till 11pm at night :D

All i have underneather the river sand is a few bags of rose and shrub mix as it is a clay based soil.... just dont every dig in it or keep fish that dig

Whipme
14-08-2009, 18:37
Looking good Henk!
I have a question about your stock list though, you said not to keep fish that dig, but you've got Kuhlis in there...

And what happened to the Clowns? Or are you going to keep them with the Zebras?
As for the Harlequins, I've got 19 in a 3ft and they're awesome in a big group like that, but you could most likely put quite a few more in there and they'd school beautifully :)

I'd love to see how 10 Zebra loaches go on in a tank that size, I'm still planning on getting a 5ft sometime soon for my loaches.

Henk Hugo
14-08-2009, 18:48
yea the stock list... things changed :D Kuhlis dont dig - when i say dig i tank about fish like my Geophagus in my 2.5 tank - they move 500kgs of pool filter sand around in a day....

i have 25 odessa barbs in there, 10 zebras, the glass cats died :( 4 pearl gouramis, 20 kuhlis.... ummmmmmmmmm

Whipme
14-08-2009, 19:06
Wow, that sounds like an awesome setup! But yet you can't really see any fish in your photos. Are they camera shy?

Oh, diggers and movers, I suppose the Kuhlis would just kick up a bit of sand on the surface in that case. Mine have dug a trench on the one side of my tank where they swim round and round all day.

Henk Hugo
14-08-2009, 20:04
they are REALLY fast.... i'll try and grab some of the fish
