Slojo - sure they will  – all we have to do is tell them about the great LFS in Pretoria and how unbelievably cheap they are, and all the great stock they carry – you will see them flocking to us in no time. :blink1:

Speaking about our LFS i could only find Flourish at one LFS and i cannot believe that it is R98-00 for all the 250ml bottles(Trace excell etc)

Going to buy a bottle today after i,m done with the client in Hoedspruit.

I had a look at the price of stability it's quite pricey but it seems like a good product.

Guys, what is the difference between Stability and Purigen?

Fish Fantasy
07-07-2009, 14:04
The difference between:
Stability is a Bio Bacteria liquid used to rapidly and safely establish the aquarium biofilter in freshwater and marine systems, thereby preventing the #1 cause of fish death: "new tank syndrome".

Purigen is a premium synthetic adsorbent that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds all

Ah, what a wealth of info you are FF. Reason I was asking is that I bought some Purigen last weekend to clear out the tannin in my tank. Was thinking that Stability maybe did the same.

Fish Fantasy

Nice purchase! the purigen is! I would love to buy some but my fliter is jam packed, no space to even fit 1 extra of anything. Let me know how it goes in your tank! oh don't forget to check on how to clean it a bit of a longish process but worth it. :)

I'm a fountain of knowledge sometimes :) lol!!! and also sometimes I must just learn to keep my big mouth shut. Henk knows about having to rephrase some of my wording but it only happens once in a blue moon. Thank goodness lol!!!

How to clean it ???? I just stuck it into a stocking, rinsed it a bit and stuck it in the filter LOL. Put it in on Saturday and took it out yesterday again. Water clear with no visible tannin in the tank

Oh I thought you were going to leave it in! What you did in the beginning was cool but the nice thing about purigen if you leave it in it will polish the water to crystal clarity and keep it that way.

When it is full and dirty it will turn from the beige blonde to a dark brown or black. To regenerate it: Soak in a 1:1 bleach water solution for 24 hours in a non-metalic container: eg Plactic bucket rinsed & unused in a well ventilated area. Rinse well then soak for 8 hours with a solution containing 2 tablespoons of dechlorinator per cup of water. Rinse well.

For freshwater use, soak for 4 hours with a solution containing 1 tablespoon of buffer per cup of water. Discus buffer or acid buffer. .Original color and full activity should now be restored and Purigen is ready for reuse. Just be careful some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen and render regeneration difficult. Don’t reuse if odor of chlorine is detectable. In case you have any doubt, soak the beads in small quantity of water and test for residual chlorine with a chlorine test kit.

I was advised not to leave it in the tank if not really needed. Aparently it eventually destroyes the good bacteria??? True or false???

Fish Fantasy
07-07-2009, 16:04
True! It removes the waste products that feeds the good bacteria if used for a long period of time but use it for a little while and when your water is clear remove it and when it starts getting dirty again then put it back to keep the water top notch.

Hey Carping hows your water clarity, i double checked the amount of time you must leave the purigen in and aparently it should be between 3 & 5 days and then take it out until next time!

Still waiting to hear when... LOL. Although would have to squeeze it in between cleaning the tanks over a weekend maybe... :-)
How about we arrange something for next weekend Sunday. Taking some action here. Maybe a venue will pop up, and we're set!!
