Following the recent thread on African Leaf Fish, I thought I woulld post this photo of a South American Leaf Fish. The photo was taken at one of my lfs.
I am very tempted to buy it. Most of my fish would be safe, but I think it would probably eat my Glass Cats.

Watch it feed, then determine what is safe and what isn't :blink1:

My main concern here is competition - these guys won't case down the food you give them, and other fish will very likely get it first.

@ Oscar - The LFS gets loads of wierd oddballs and Plecs. This must have been in one of their South American shipments.

@ Salmonafrica - Do you think my Glass Cats would be safe? My other concern is feeding them. My research leads me to believe that they will only eat live fish. Apparently they won't even touch worms etc.

They may be - how large are they currently? They get to a decent size, and they're laterally compressed, which helps, but leaf fish have large mouths... if you've ever seen their protrusible jaws fully extended, you'd get something of an idea.

(http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Oddbal1123.jpg)I've never seen or heard of one of them feeding off any form of dead food, but with various live foods they seem to do well. You're right about the worms, but luckily for you, you live in the UK, where freshwater feeder shrimps are legal. They should happily feed off these. Otherwise, you're pretty much stuck with live fish.

Yeah, I think my Glass Cats are definately at risk :(
My kids love their "See Through" fish, so I would have a lot of explaining to do if those disappeared :tomato:

Nice thing about see-through fish is that you never know when they're missing :blink1:

While they're a unique fish species, they're not really suited for mixing with other fish, and activity wise, they're not very interesting until feeding time.

I went back to the lfs this morning, and there was only 1 tiny leaf left. £30 was a bit much for it. So I didn't buy it.
So my Glass Cats are safe......
