Hey guys

Wondering if you guys are able to help me, My Mom has two tanks,(both 10L) in the one tank she had 4 pearl scales and 2 black moores, and the other she had the fighters in, but after the fighters died, she tried to move the black moores over to the second tank, but now she noticed that the moores are covered in white spots and she says they look bedraggled. - i havent seen them myself.

But we seem to be having endless problems with this specific tank, as we have had the moore and pearls for almost a year, and never had any kind of issues like this?
Could something be in the tank this is causing this to happen?

The next problem that i have is with one of my angels?
He keeps appearing as if he is dead, lying on the ground motionless, and when i try to scoop him up with the net then he starts swimming again?
I have him in a 60L tank and at times when ive watched him, his swimming around on his side, swimming aimlessly around the tank, i dont know is he dying or what the case is? but his been like this for the past 3 days, and he eats off the ground.

Cant anyone help?

10L is very small for a tank. You will really struggle to maintain water quality and therefore fish health will suffer.
The spots sound like the fish has Ich. There are a few remedies that you can buy at the fish shop that will cure this.

Not sure what is wrong with your Angel. But 60L is also small for them, as they get quite big.
So once again, I suspect it is a water quality related issue.

With both situations I think that frequent water changes will not be a bad thing.

Hi Reedfish

They have been in these tanks for awhile now, wouldn't they have shown signs of unhappiness, alot earlier??

The angel isn't very big.

They have both been in the same water for awhile now, and i just top it up with fresh water ever so often...

Hi there

I'm sorry to say, but there is a lot wrong with this whole situation.

To begin with, those tanks are EXTREMELY small, even for fancy goldfish. Do bear in mind that goldfish can grow very big, and hence need a larger water volume. They also put out a lot of waste, which means if they're placed in a small-volumed environment, the water will pollute much more quickly and problems are likely to follow.

The fish have a disease known as white spot - a common parasitic problem that is most often associated with stress. The goldfish would likely be under huge amounts of stress at this time, because they've just been moved from one tank to another. This will lower their immune system. Secondly, the high levels of pollution, which I mentioned earlier, will further lower their immune system. Put these together and you've got a prime candidate for white spot to appear on.

The best option would be to try to get a bigger tank to put the ill fish in, and seek out a specific medication for white spot - most pet stores carry medicine called anti-ich, otherwise you can use aquarium salt (NOT TABLE SALT). Follow the instructions on the respective packages.

Once everything has been sorted out, I suggest moving the lot of the goldfish to the larger tank, where they'll be much happier. Provide adequate filtration, and do proper water changes rather than just topping up (topping up doesn't remove any pollutants from the water - you need to remove a portion of the water yourself and replace it with clean, fresh water).

As for the angel...
Hard to tell off the bat, but it may have an internal problem. Are there any other symptoms? Do you perform proper water changes on this tank? How is the filtration? What's the temperature? Answers to these questions could help us help you.
