Hi All

Some of you might remember that from a previous Discus spawn, a pair of Snakeskin's, a peculiar fry developed. This young guy was different to his siblings and parents in that it showed no stress bars, not even the one that runs through the eye.

Its been a couple of months and the young one has grown some. Here are some pic's of him. He is about 3 inches in size now, and already shows what a great Discus he will grow up to be.
He still has the fine striations seen in Snakeskin Discus, but on this one the striations appear to be even finer.

I am open to opinions and criticism. . .

I am open to opinions and criticism. . .

My Opinion: One of the weirdest, coolest Discus I have ever seen - the genetic potencial boggles the mind...

Criticism: Having stuff like this pop up so close to where I live(Must be something in the tap water - lol) makes the "I want to keep Discus again" fires flare up from the well banked embers of my previos "Discus Daze".... @Marco (http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/member.php?u=943) - dont know if I should hate you...or thank you...lol

Congrats dude! Rearing something like this makes all those waterchanges and sleepless nights feeding babies well worth it!!!

Beautiful discus Marco.

no stress bars, not even the one that runs through the eye. Can he even go darker in colour?

matteffect - This is not like the mass bred, hormone fed brightly coloured discus babies imprted from the East we see At LFS's...He is 3inches(!!!!) in 3 months and not even a "teenager" yet - the true, adult colouration will develop with time, but the promise of it is already there in the fine blue reticulation(PS:Marco - it sort of reminds me of a Sharkskin male I used to have)

Marco, very nice, just imagine when he/she is big, will look awsome. Now you can name your own strain?

Hi.

azurekoi-thanks buddy! I also think he/she is a very special looking dude! I am lucky that he has grown so well. His mouth and eyes are still so small, he looks to have the make-up of becoming a real giant!

Of course he is not a squirrel loach. . .haha. By the way-my sincerest congrats on that AMAZING achievement buddy, proof of a genuine aquarist in you!

matteffect-to be honest, he has never had reason to darken, so I'm not sure. He does however show signs of inheriting his dad's almost perfect HALO! Me very happy!

Laracroft-thank you. Naming a strain, I doubt. I researched this and found that some, though very rare Snakeskin pairs throw a small % of barless fry. Even breeding these to each other only slightly increase the % of barless fry. If at all possible, it will take many generations to fix them as strain.
I have some wonderful news for you! The blue diamond I got from you, my 'hope' turned out right. He is now just abt 5inches, and had his first spawn on Monday! Very happy. Will post a pic of him for you!

Wow, good on the old blue boy, please post some pics. Would love to see him again with his new babies. Funny enough I dreamt last night that my Zebra's spawned. But reality is that I just found out that all 4 of them are females. I picked them up turned them around and saw they were all female. I now need at least two males, will have to contact Altum to source me some males. Good luck on all your babies.
