Hey... I went to my LFS and saw that all and i mean all of their Tiger Barbs were doing head stands... Why would tiger barbs do this???

Swim bladder problems maybe ?

But that would only affect a few fish would it not? Because each and every tiger barb in the tank were doing it...

Maybe the shipment was all bad... unlikely though. Ive heard of male tiger barbs standing on their heads because they are ready to mate and ant to mate, it is a mating dance. Could have been it?

Ive also heard of it being a resting pose.

Also heard that bad diet clogs up the digestive system and then it happens.

i've checked in a book i have here... Very very very old book... And it says that the tiger barbs do head stands if there is a nitrogen build up... Wonder if this is actually so...

Hi Bugman it will be due to some water condition. A lot of fish will do head stand or try to burry itself in the grave when the get exposed to high levels of ammonia or nitrite.
