View Full Version : Powerhead too Strong

Hello
I have a 1500L P/h powerhead in my 240L tank 1200mm x 450mm x 450mm.
Its a Regent R-2000.

Its great for cleaning, but my reedfish get literalty flung across the tank when they get into the stream.
It's not going to help with the Gouramie's neither.

Does anybody know how to difuse the output of the powerhead in such a way there is still good Oxygination and waterflow?

i attached a 200mm lenth of polycarb pipe onto the outlent of my powerhead. i drilled alot of holes in the polycarb pipe and sealed it at the other end . this defuses the water enough for me

You can make a spraybar, like Reafer described.

I fitted a polycarb pipe as well. It works nicely. I have a 600L/PH filter and the strong waterflow would throw fish around in my 58L tank.

You say Powerhead as if you have the Powerhead alone?

I'm guessing it's running to an undergravel filter?

The powerhead has a filter attached to it.
There is nothing else attached.

wouldnt that be clasified as a internal power filter? normally those have a valve so you can adjust the water flow to suite your needs

The ones I've seen only have a valve to let air bubbles in or out, not to control flowrate.

Which is why I got confused when he called it a powerhead, because I always linked powerheads to undergravel filters, but I guess it's really the same thing except that it pumps into a media basket instead of directly back into the tank.

In that case my corner tank is the same.

powerheads are mostly uses for undergravel filters, but alsowidly used in maarine tanks to get the current flowing
