View Full Version : Help Snails
Hi Guys,
I have just posted a thread asking the proff about snails but I thought i would ask you too, Lately my taks have become over run with these small little snails there are just way to many to take out by hand and I'm super scared of using CHEMICALS from the LPS and I have tried the bait method too, does anyone have some advice for me on how to get rid of them?

Have a look at this link: http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/4742/snail_faq.html
Some fish might do the job for you.

What type of snails are you refering too?
They are small little round snails
We will need a bit of a better description of the snails in order to try and help you Clyde. Colour, shape, size, name if possible.... Where did they come from?
Sorry guys, well the seem to the common pond snail they came from the plants I bought from the pet shop.
This is what I do - chance discovery. Product: Sera pond, bio algenstop - humin
This water conditioner has an interesting side affect - it does not kill snails but does send them to the top of the tank for 30 minutes or so. Makes for real easy collection. Alternatively (if water parameters allow) add a convict or two - but these tend to get real agro and will do more damage to your tank / plants than snails. Having tried several fish, I tend to not use them as an once-off intervention (since it leads to more tanks - due to personality issues, not that more tanks are bad.)
I do drop new plants into my convict tank for two weeks or so - since doning this "plant quarantine" I have not had any new introductions.
clown loaches will be the quickest way to deal with your snails
