Lid on or off?

Firstly, is it a good idea to keep the lid of your aquarium on or off? I've noticed that since taking the lid off my tank, the fish seem "happier". The tank smells a lot better too.

Secondly, does the light in the lid annoy the fish in any way? In other words, should I switch it off at night or is it fine to leave it on constantly?

Always a good idea to keep your lid on...don't want dust and other bad molecules going in your water. As for the light, yip...switch it off every night. Leaving it on all the time will only give you more algae quicker and fish do expect night time as we humans do :)

You should put the light off at night. Fish also need a day/night cycle. With a lid on you will get more dust etc in the tank. I think they probably seem happier because the water is more oxygenated, and probably also a bit cooler (and therefore more oxygenated) because of evaporation.
