View Full Version : You know you have a problem when...
Ok, here's a thread we can add onto as we go along for some laughs.
The topic is simple:
You KNOW you have a problem when:
- you make space available in your house for tanks
- you go to a LFS more than once on a weekend
- you want every kind of fish in your tank
- you cancel appointments to do tank maintenance
- you get your better-half hooked into the hobby as well
- you've got more fish test kits & chemicals than actual supplies in your first aid kit
You get the picture I take it :p
Now, for all replies, just start with the completion of the subject opening line

You know you got a problem when your electrical bill is higher since you started your
fish addiction

You know u got a prob when u have more photos of your fish than of your better half
you know you've got a problem when your bedroom becomes your fishroom
You know you've got a problem when ....
you dream about fish
you have a calendar dedicated to your fish birthdays :D
When a good portion of your monthly budget is equipment for fishtanks
Your new fish are better to watch than anything on DSTV
-you buy a house so you have somewhere to put your fish

Ha ha ha, although I'm yet to buy a house the first thing I think when I look at one is "where would the tanks go".
Geesh Rory....I think you take the cake so far bru :)

You have a problem when your deep freeze has more blood worms, tubifix worms, brine shrimp etc than normal cow/chicken meat.
when you walk by evey single shop, regardless of what shop it is and wonder if there is anything inside that can be bought for your fishies!
You know you have a problem when you set your alarm for an hour earlier than 'normal' so that you'll have time to feed your fish and start a new brineshrimp hatch.
You know you have a problem when the LFS phones YOU to tell you when they have new fish arriving

Haha, I happen to have a thread on MASA specifically for all the cool items I find in "regular" shops :p I've bought all sorts of bits and pieces because they might be useful for my tank someday :p

So True Zoom!!! I could walk past 20 pet shops and walk into every single one of them to see what's nice to buy for my babies.

I'd rather use that time to go gym :)
I'm working on that......give me time and I'll get there again :D
I'd rather use that time to go gym :)
Trade in the gym contract and use the money to put towards your fish budget.
LOL....now that's when you have a problem! :congrats: :D
That's a good plan :p I only pay R65/mo for gym though so can't buy much for that...
I agree with all of you guys!
AND
I Quit my day job!
To collect , breed, source fish 'n stuff
MOVED to CT from PE, to "make it easier for the fish":amazed:
MADE it a profession
:idea:Rented 2 warehouses, and bought loads of equip, to RESEARCH my hobby..erm profession..without meddlesome interference from friends, family, and WORK-RELATED ISSUES:alberteinstein:
Spend RRRRR's on fish imports, etc so I can SEE what they're like , FIRSTHAND:p
Move HOUSE every 6months, so "I can have some extra space for more species research at home":hmmmm:
Housemates? They're just a waste of unnecessary water, electricity and TANKSPACE!!!
I NOW want a JOB to finance THIS ONE!:banghead:
My advice: Pick a problem ... and stick with it:bigsmile:
You know you have a problem when you speak more to the fish than to you wife/hubby.
You know you have a problem when you charge the laptop all day just to sit in bed with your loved one (unimpressed:evil:) and research about fish:bigsmile:.
- if you want to rescape your tank all the time
- collect as many aquatic plants as possible
- have a very high attention to detail wrt the health of your plants

LOL, buy another tank and join the MTS club...... We started with a 120lt tank in Febraury and currently we now standing at 4 tanks LOL
You know you have a problem when you get home from work and do a good 50% water change... get all the water out, and as you about to add the water the power goes out.
Normally this wouldn't be a problem... but when your dechlor'd water that has stood all day is sitting at 18degrees, and your heater in the tank ain't on to warm it up...! Get my drift...?

NOPE, SHE HAS THE PROBLEM...... :smile1:
Old but good thread: Time for its revival.
You know you have a problem when ...
- You buy more bandwidth every month to accommodate unthrottled browsing of TASA and related aquarium content.
- You invest in building a web persona for the hobby
- your web persona has its own web site
- you introduce yourself as this web persona when talking to a LFS
- public holidays, weekends and annual leave is ideal time to spend quality time with your fish - you send the other 1/2 away
- Shopping at the mall / hardware store always finds you buying a container, glue, piping .. stuff that might be of use
- your other 1/2 agrees that you can use the dinning room as a dedicated fish, but you still negotiate more tank sprawl
- all outings on weekends happen to pass several fish suppliers
- the first rains hit JHB (last night) and the first thought is about the outside tanks and what affect this will have on the water temperature ... second was about the wet dogs
- to reduce your electricity bill but increase your tank count you convince your boss that the office needs at least two fish tanks
- your browsers home page is defaulted to TASA
- you casually browse or revive old threads if nothing of interest happened between 02:00 and 05:00 on TASA
- You have friends that come visist to see your fish tanks instead of you.

So true! I can relate to all the the above, actually managed to get a tank setup at work.....
No know you have a problem when ever you see fish for sale on the forums you take them and do the research later and if they can't go in with the fish you already have then it is a good reason for another tank.
