I've grown it and it really grows uber quickly if it is in its happy conditions. It's best practice to keep approx 5 or 6 leaves on the plant for it to be optimal although it'll throw out more leaves. Really, it looks stunning with all its leaves in a big tank, but beware, this plant blocks quite a bit of light.
Roots grow very lengthy......goes almost all over the tank. When I uprooted mine last year, I lifted more than half of the substrate

I currently have one but it's showing signs of death (in my recent redone 1.2m + sump tank....in between the rocks). If it dies, I don't actually want to get it again (although it's beautiful)....I don't like plants that blocks tons of light. It's also one of the reasons why I hate duckweed too (even though it's very good in assisting keeping your water healthy

Hi Henk,

These plants are lovely and easy to care for.
Their leaves do tend to vigorously reach for the surface but I use that tendency to "shade" some of the species in my aquarium which requires less light.
Personally I have only used and seen the Nymphaea micrantha but would love to add some Nymphaea lotus "Red" to my collection.

2cm a DAY??? wow... you must have a good fert in there.

Henk... how easy is it to source /grow that plant... I think the red plants give the tank such a new character.

A beautiful African Lotus plant, brilliant green with spots. The leaves will start out low and some runners may extend with some leaves floating on the surface. Medium hardy plant. Keeping the long runners pruned encourages bottom growth.

I got mine from Zaf and veegal - not sure where they sourced it from but it look like its the green tiger lotus with red surface leaves - REALLY pretty

This was Friday.
The pics of my Gourami building a nest was Saturday (Another thread)
Today I have a 4th leaf half way up to the top, and the other leaves ave moved further away from the plant due to growth.

I use the Profs Ferts..
