Polishing Glass Scratches

I plan to move my tank this coming weekend, in preparation for putting another one in, in the very near future.

Now I have a couple of scratches on the front glass, most probably from scooping up gravel when cleaning, without noticing.

Apparently I can polish these scratches out? Anybody have any hints, tips and advice?

Would it be less trouble to just ignore them, since I only really notice them when it's dark and the lights in the room are off?

If the scatches are bearable just leave them because most scratch removers use chemicals which might contaminate the tank if not cleaned out properly but if it's really bugging you try this:
To remove scratches from glass you'll need jeweler's rouge (Cerium Oxide) of the appropriate abrasiveness, 2 ounces of ammonia, and approximately 2 quarts of water. You'll also need an electric buffer, a lamb's wool buffing pad with the required backing plate for the pad, an extension cord rated for outdoor use, a bucket, a clean soft sponge, and lint-free paper towels. Jewellers use this to polish stones.

i was in the glass industry for a few years and yea u can polish glass but its a loosing battle if u planning on doing it by hand. U can try brasso and toothpaste but it wont work very well and its toxic to your fish and it will take hours :P . u can get a polishing compound from bohle in JHB which works really well but again be prepared to take a while and again no fish in the tank at the time. I would recommend just buying a new piece of glass if the thickness is under 10mm. My 2cents worth :)

I am waiting to turn mine, so the sratches are at the back..
