Hi All

After our disasters 24 hour blackout on the coldest day to date I had take my filters apart, clean tank and start again.

So I thought I would start with a new scape.
I went very artsy fartsy with a touch of fen chui and a touch of madness.
I tried to use more positive space in the tank and get rid of all the negative lines
and areas.

So here is what I got. If you don't like this you might have to go see a shrink as you may have a severe case of tank envy :D

Lights: 3x 39W T5 , but I use only one.
Substrate: Mostly glass and wood.
Plants: anubias and Java Fern Windilov
Dosing: None.
Fish: Live ones

Awesome right??:push:

Ok and here is some of the fish. Them you should actually not judge. They are my test run discus. Not bought to experiment on but give them my best care and see if I can cope. Did not want to kill some R500 discus out of stupidity.

They came out of a LPS and we had some trying times. Marco had some great advice and most of them are now OK and I am a little less stressed :)

They would most likely not be show quality discus one day but makes the tank look good anyway. Will maybe one trade them in on a more Ferrari type model discus.

And as you will see they compliment my center feature stunningly.

Slow down man, let the people first recover from exposure to pure greatness before
I reveal my next master piece :) :D

Perfect layout - just shows the value of a well placed peace of driftwood. Having live fish really adds to the movement in the tank.

hehe

Nothing wrong with surfaces mate...my Discus tanks looked much the same when i had them...Although I introduced symmetry to enhance the overall awesomeness of the "Great wide open" - i had 2(Yes,read it...2) Driftwoood pieces per tank...he,he

Yeah I knew this tank would reveal who actually does have a great eye when
it comes to scaping a planted tank.

Thanks Ferdie

Nice to see you kept to the rule of 3 with regards to balance. Just one small suggestion, the heater on the left is slightly angled, and the one on the right is perfectly straight... this is a little distracting. Oh, and if you can please get the Discus to swim in harmony for the photo shoot that would be awesome-taculous!

Whaaaat?! That's crazy :) With some more experience I might one day add that second piece but I don't think myself and the wold is no quite ready for that :D

I missed that but its easily fixed. In regards to the discus, they are stubborn and the dog training manual I have is of no use.

That does look AWESOME!! Well done..

Thanks !

hehe, I read your description and had a good long pause at the glass and wood substrate (obviously before I saw the pics).

jokes aside, those fish are beautiful

Driftwood is a bit overkill don't you think. HEHEHEHE
Seriously nice puppies wish I could hold them.
No seriously nice fish I would love to keep some discuss one day as i'm still a newby and learning how to keep hardy fish. LOL

LOL Nice one Vis! Wait to the anubis and java fern grow in a bit :)

Those are some very pretty discus! Good luck on your discus journey Vis :) I think these fish are going to cause you to become a mushy daddy with their personalities.

Thanks for all the comments. The scape was to be the main attraction in the tank but the discus are a bit distracting :)

Clean, simple, orginal and somewhat daft that's the way I like it, congrats Vis.

Looking foreward to seeing an update, perhaps alternate the position of the mopane on a bi-weekly basis, just to give the Discus a creative outlet !

Agree with Zoom, that heater balance/symmentry thing also worries the hell out of me.

Thanks for the feedback Trev

Good idea on moving the wood, that would keep them thinking " Where was it,
Where is it going...? What the driftwood is happening around here"
That way they might stop fighting over food.

Vis, this is indeed a masterpiece. I think it's time I scrapped all this fiddly substrate business and cut down on all those distracting pieces of bogwood, a true master relies on only one to show their true calibre. :D

Jokes aside, best of luck with the rest of the load shedding and any further plans for the tank man!

Well a hour after the power went out I wrapped all the tanks in sleeping bags. Did not touch them again before the power came on again.
I then immediately did a 50% WC when the power came back on. Felt weird putting 22'C water in a discus tank :)
I also took all the filters apart and gave them a thorough clean.

Thanks, might be living in your area one of these days.

Thanks Nirv, might be looking into getting an inverter.

For true harmony you'd have to shift the driftwood to the left and always abide by the rule of thirds.
I would recommend putting the wood on a perspex stand so the visual weight isn't so low down.
