Hey guys, I just wanted to ask if anyone here has ever bred these pearls before and if you have I would be greatful to hear of your experiences. I love these fish and am thinking of breeding them, seriously considering changing from saltwater to freshwater.

Howzit buddy, think I just had a bad day, I'm gonna keep my salt water.
@sailing derrick, I have a friend with a farm just outside east london and he has tonnes of drift wood down at a river near the house, so I'm gonna get some from there for bruce. I've used it in my tank before and he uses it in his tank, makes the water nice and soft and acid.
Hi LowFlyer
I know someone who has successfully bred and raised Pearl Gouramis recently.
To make it easy for you, they breed very similiar to Betta Splendens. Just go Google "How to breed Pearl Gouramis" and you will find all the info you need on it
Cheers

Thanks Dale, that is good news, I have bred Bettas before, so I can use that experience here. Hopefully I'll be able to get a freshwater setup going at some stage. I love pearls, I just think they are flippin pretty and such nice natured fish.
Cool, keep us all posted on how the breeding goes please
Cheers

It will still be a while until I get a pearl setup going hey, there are a few variables that need to be adjusted before that can happen, in other words, if my parents go to New Zealand to live, and I move into my own place, vuala, but ya, I might actually end up going with, but I might stay here.
But will definitly keep posting up to date if I get around to breeding those beauties

Lowflyer, I think I'm the person Dale is refering to!
I have successfully bred various gouramis before, but recently, I managed to breed about 600 to 8oo Pearl gouramis (Trichogaster Leerii ) I still have a few left, as I have sold most of them to the petshops in and around the Brackenfell area.
They are the most peacefull Gourami's one can keep!
They just need a well planted tank with duckweed floating on top.
I did remove the parents as soon as I spotted the wriglers hanging from the duckweed and where the glass and water meet at the surface.
They bred in a well matured tank.
Gert.

Thanks so much Gert, useful information. I'll be sure to ask you more questions :). I love the nature of these little guys. What size tank do you recommend? Will a 2 foot tank work, and as you said, well planted.

Hey Lowflyer, have you managed to find out any more info on breading these little guys?
A friend has given me a 3 foot tank for helping him sell one of his other tanks, I thought I'd use it for a sump but is seems like a bit of a waste.
Thinking of trying my luck with the pearls.
Thanks.
