I can buy a 1200x450x450 from a local school thats gone dark,

they cant put fish in it because the children harrass the fish and if they put snakes in it the children wont come into class aswell as their parents.

so what would be a good price for the tank. its on a steel frame with plastic canopy and looks good?

what does a new one cost?

Tank usually costs around R400 and the stand around R300. These prices are based on a LFS here in Cape Town.

I assume that there is no 'extras' such as heater, filter etc etc?

sounds interesting, a semi scaly shop up here has the same idea, they have tanks atop each other, in stands, with an overflow pipe installed that lets the top tank "leak" into the bottom tank.

they built it 3tiered. looks cool

Will try and find pic's, had 1 stand with 1.2's on and 1 stand with 1m tanks on .. all seperate heaters pumps and lights ... electrical bill wasn't cool though...and turned into a lot of work cause i had 2 other tanks as well turned into to much work and not enjoy enjoyment... so sold all the 1 metre tanks :)
