Hi guys

On Sunday my 2ft tank's base cracked and you can imagine the rest. Water all over and me frantically trying to save the fish. Luckily, all the fish were saved except for some swordtail fry that didn’t make it.

My questions are as follows:

1. Is 4mm glass all-round safe for a standard 2ft tank. (Had the tank for over a year with no problems)

2. The cause of the base cracking was due to the cabinet that got wet and warped. Shouldn’t the Polystyrene base compensate for uneven cabinet to a certain degree?

Any help would be appreciated

4mm glass on a 2 ft is ok as far as my experience goes and the polystyrene do compensate for the problem but only to a certain point. The advice is keep your aqaurium away from wooden surfaces or if you can't try to go to a hardware store like Mica and buy a thicker piece polystyrene and cut it down to size, usaully they only sell it in sheets, opt for about 12 - 16mm thick. Saw some people put a towel underneath to absorb any water that may spill or run down your aqaurium, don't know if it works, didn't try it myself. Maybe somebody else can confirm it.

I would also say that 4mm is ok but in my opinion rather spend a little more and make 100% sure with thicker glass
