Hi Guys

So I had a good read through a page where snail is treating ich by adding salt and doing wc's, so my question is what effect does salt have on a planted tank?? Does high levels of salt damage plants.

i havnt tried it before but i did read that salt kills plants..

i think what most ppl do is do a salt bath for fish with itch.. they take tank water and add salt (not sure of proportions) then they put the fish into the solution for a few seconds..

i think that adding salt to a tank may damage more than plants.. some fish are sensitive to long periods of salt contact

I have added salt to my planted tanks and they havent died, maybe the does was too small

I have treated ich by using 1 teaspoon for every five liters of water. Increasing the temperature is important. I also did a 50% water change every day. The ich was gone in four days. No plants showed any signs of distress. I am still using salt at half a teaspoon for every five liters even with my fish not being sick and the plants grow well.

I only have fancy goldfish - don't know how tropical fish will react to it.

@Hein (http://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/member.php?u=268).....Im using stable salt, located here...(www.csl-fish.com (http://www.csl-fish.com), sorry but i dont know where on the site to find it, this is just the site on the container). My LPS sells this for R50 per KG, and it has a small spoon (about half the size of a teaspoon) that comes with it, and i have to add 1 of these spoons to every 10L of water. I must admit in total the container weighs 975g now, which means i have only used 25g worth of salt in a 244L tank (inc 10% water changes every day), so i think go to your LPS and try and fund this stuff im using.
