View Full Version : Suggestion for Middle to Top fish
I was wondering what fish I should get for my 80 litre tank, I have already got 2 brissle nose, 4 dwarf cichlids (cockatoo) and 5 corries, I want to also get cardinals and emporer tets. I thought about Chocolate Gouramis but it appears they are a tad too difficult to keep. Any suggestions would be greatly appricated. Thanks
Tettra's would look good, they're midders and fairly inexpensive.
I used to have hatchfish, they were pretty cool, just terrible jumpers
Wes.... You may want to expand a little more on Tetras? There are a huge number of different tetras out there, some that swim in the middle layers, but also others that swim on the bottom and some that swim near the surface.
LunaTic.... If you only have an 80L tank, then I would not recommend more fish than you have already suggested. You will find your tank is quickly overstocked if you add more fish.
With Emperor Tetras and Cardinals, or for that matter the majority of tetras, you will need a shoal of at least 6 each, but they are happier in larger shoals. The other issue I can see here, is that shoaling fish like to have some space to swim in, but thats not so possible in an 80L. You would probably find that the tetras would fin nip each other in such a small environment?
Even with 2 pair of Cacatuoides, 2 Bristlenose and 5 Cories this could be considered a little cramped as they are all bottom dwellers?
Personally, I would consider removing something before you want to add some mid or surface dwellers. My personal preferance would take the Bristle Nose out, and I'd also consider removing one pair of Cacatuoides if not just one of the males? Again, 80L is a bit cramped for 2 pair of Apisto's. Not enough space to define territorial boundries. Don't be surprised if you see the Males (or the females for that matter) fighting.
Sorry its not the info you wanted, but I'm sure you'll want whats best for your fish?
Just out of interest... Whats the actual dimensions of this tank?
Cheers
G!
Try hatchet fish or zebra danios, they both like to stay at the surface.
