View Full Version : Help with my Aulonocara stuartgranti
So I have this female Aulonocara stuartgranti that "had" eggs so I moved her to a separate breeding tank.... Question was this the right move or not.....?
Reason being is because she was spitting out what look like to me was egg shells..... Then I give her I little food to see if she'll take it and she did.... So am guessing there no babies????? (Oo?
Can someone please school me on what the correct procedure is please.....
I have bread some kribensis that I still have....
So what am I doing wrong
Thanks E!
Hi Elliot
A couple of questions first...
What size tank is she in and what size tank was she moved to?
What other species are in the tank?
How long after spawning did you move her?
How old is she, and the male she spawned with?
These will help give some advice.
Hi There
It depends, is your female a young female ,is this her first time she is carrying .Normally if females are matured enough you can leave the female in the tank also depending how many females you have in your tank if there is more than one i dont see why the female should be removed from the tank as the males will not only harras the on female and concentrate on breeding with the other females in the tank .Staurtgranti peacocks dont normally have a heavy temperament they normally calm. Maybe there are certain people that will disagree I am only speak of my experience .
I don't think that it was egg shells you found being spat form her mouth as the fry actually develop from the eggs and as they grow it is a means of food to them, many times have i stripped a female to find they have not fully developed leaving them to develop with out feeding them ,As i undertood the eggs are a use of food for them please correct me if I am wrong someone .
Once again i think it is the maturity of that female that will determine if she will carry through or just simply swoller them
Please say how many males and females do you have and is your female young or has she bred before .By the sounds of it she has eaten her eggs they don't normally eat when they carry eggs ,That is why when stripping the fry needs to be removed as she will eat them ,
Hope this helps any one can add to this and correct me if I am wrong .
Thanks for the info to your questions rowland she is a adult about 5 to 7 centimetres there are two pairs of then in my 1.2 meter.... Along with the following another two pairs of young juveniles that I got from Sarf the others are two bala sharks , two acie, two frontosa and one "catfish" (sucker) the two pair of juveniles that a got from Sarf will be put in to a 600 tank please correct me if am wrong at doing this it will be some time before my 4 1meter tank breeding set up will be up and running for now its two 600 tanks and one 1.2 meter .... Hope that covers that
As for the males they are fully coloured the one more then the other I even tested the water parameters to check and get peace of mind so to speak was kinda looking forward to the fry o well like they say back to the drawing bored lol
Hope this helps E!
See if your female will carry out for the full 15 days with out removing her next time it wont be long and she will breed again trust me she will
Thanks salim appreciate all the info
DONT WORRY MATE they will breed ,peacocks are easy to Breed just a nice dominant male getting fed the rite food to keep him nice and strong and he will spawn .I promise you once they start they don't like to stop .I can understand you were excited but this happens all the time you loose and gain .
I am not worthy o great and wise one..... Lol thanks again buddy, what type of food would you recommend ???
Blood worm buddy and a good bit with spirluna in ,i know allot of Malawi keepers also use Tetra Bits but i tend to differ with this ,as with Malawi chiclids i stay away from coulour enhancers.I use a high protein food with no enhancers sorry man cant remember the name i no longer have malawi chiclids but i can assure you the food is not expensive at all its a basic food used by most fish keepers i had good results will try and get you the name .
