View Full Version : advice on new setup
Hi All,
I have bought a new tank, 1,5m 375l. I have now decided to go with a sump for filtration.
The tank has a glass section in the back of the tank but it doesnt have a hole drilled through it, I wanted to know whether this would be of use to me or waste of space in tank? I dont want to fill up and decide that I want to remove it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards

funny that there would be an overflow chamber there but no hole drilled, best thing would be to have a hole drilled in the base, but you going to have to remove thats ection to have the hole drilled and then put that section back in.
depends how you intend getting the water from your tank to your sump? if you are not wanting to drill your tank, then rather remove that overflow section, it would be pointless having it there.
or maybe someone has an idea to make use of that overflow section other than overflowing with water, lol. maybe a moss wall setup in the corner, what kind of tank are you setting up? what you intend keeping in it?

Hi Jane
All i can think is that the tank had a new base fitted at some stage and the previous base was drilled. I know of a guy in Strand that will drill the hole if you need one done in situ. All depends tho if you want to run with a sump and prepared to take a risk of the base cracking while its being drilled.
Do you keep discus and are you planning to keep them in this tank?
Andrew
I think take away the overflow section completely, otherwise you going to have a continual gargaling noise coming from the tank. You can dampen the sound with filter media or bio balls. I would rather drill a hole in the back panel and send it to your sump. By taking away the overflow you would also be increasing the volume of water in your tank.
Hi All,
thanks guys for help, I don't really want to drill, Im hoping I can still run a sump filter and it is for my discus who are quickly outgrowing their current home.
Kind regards to all
Jane
Um, you don't HAVE to have the base drilled for a sump. There's a system, if I recall it's called a "durso" or something like that. the overflow chamber could be for this set up. Singularity ?
