View Full Version : How much too feed my fish
Hi
How do i know how much to feed my fish and when I'm feeding to much or to little ? are there any guide lines I should be following? Oh I have a 60L tank with 3 Angels and a 120L tank with live breeders.

Rule of thumb is to feed them as much as they can eat in 2 minutes
Other rule of thumb is to feed them as much as they can eat in ......... ( here you can add a figure anywhere between 30secs and 5 minutes)
Personally we feed them twice a day as much as they can finish in about 30 secs, with at least 1 day of no feeding a week.
Yip - agree with above :)

Theory behind this?
thanks..
Theory is fish in the wild NEVER get food as reularly as in a tank. The day off is to assist the digestive track to empty and generally clean itself out. In the wild a fish can sometimes go weeks without food, a fast evry now and then seems a good thing. The fish also tend to seem a bit healthier.

cool will give it a try..
Don't be afraid to starve your fish a little bit....keeps them healthy IMO. They also get 'punished' if they either unroot or chomp my plants, sometimes they'll go for days without food, and no, I'm not kidding.

Dale won't this just make them chomp your plants even more looking for food??
When i said in another thread that I want to come back as a fishy in my next life, I surely didn't mean to be one of Dale's fishies. I like munching LOL

I'v gone 3months without feeding my fish before(went to america) but then again my fish have a constant supply of live food in the tank so I dont get too worried...
A slightly less "extreme" approach is feeding blood worms every now and then they are very high in roughage and will help clear the fish's digestive tract especially when feeding a high protein diet..
Eskimo how do you get a constant supply of live food ????
